Cover Magic

News from Jeri Smith-Ready…the cover for Bad to the Bone has been leaked on the interweb.  Jeri is still planning a huge unveiling next week, which will involve playlists and contest announcements and news about signings; but if you’re impatient like I am, I had to check it out at Ciara Griffin’s twitter page – which I love.  I almost think this is better than the cover for Wicked Game.

CONTEST ALERT – Thanks to the Hachette Group, Fantasy Book Critic has 5 sets of the entire Kitty Norville series by Carrie Vaughn to give away.  The sets include the latest release, Kitty and the Dead Man’s Hand, as well as the March release, Kitty Raises Hell.  The contest is only open to US residents and entries are being accepted until March 1st.

The New Statesman has an interesting article, There Will Be Blood by Kevin Jackson, on how Dracula by Bram Stoker is still having a lot of influence on today’s vampire entertainment.

When a franchise becomes parodied, pastiched and generally diluted to this degree, it is usually a sign that the original creation has lost all its potency, but not a bit of it: at least two (maybe more) expensive Dracula features are now in pre-production.

The new Jill Kismet novel by Lilith Saintcrow, Redemption Alley, is now available for preorder at Amazon.

Check out what SciFiGuy found – the cover for Strange Brew, a new anthology featuring Charlaine Harris, Jim Butcher, Patricia Briggs and many more.  Now this is a hot cover and I can’t wait to get it on July 7th.

CONTEST ALERT – Toni Andrews is giving away a copy of her Angel of Mercy over at the Deadline Dames.  All you have to do is tell her the number one thing you would like to get from a critique group.  I’m not sure when the contest ends, but I’m guessing sometime tomorrow or by Friday.

I can’t remember if I’ve said this before or not, but the next Merry Gentry novel by Laurell K Hamilton is going to be called Sins of the Flesh and is already available for preorder at Amazon.  The release date is October 27, 2009 – just in time for Halloween.

There’s an interesting piece over at OrbitBooks.net giving us a glimpse into the making of a book cover.  It looks like it’s the beginning of a series of articles, so it might be something to keep your eye on.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
