Can you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
I’m the author of two urban fantasy series: The Maker’s Song series and the Kallie Riviere Hoodoo series, both published by Pocket.
I live in Springfield, Oregon with the requisite cats, Amiga, Diabla, and Ember. I’m mother to two adult sons, Sebastian and Matt, and Nana to three grandchildren, Leawna, Kylah, and Liam.
I love to read and enjoy hiking (especially to unsnarl plot tangles), and seeing movies. Nothing like a good movie, a bag of popcorn, and a box of Junior Mints. Ah. Good times. Same goes with books: a comfy spot, a blankie, a bag of pretzels and a glass of root beer. Perfection.
Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
THE MAKER’S SONG (A Rush of Wings, In the Blood, Beneath the Skin, Etched in Bone) world is located primarily in New Orleans, but the books have taken readers to Seattle and Portland as well. It’s a dark world of vampires (nightkind) and fallen angels and unknowing mortals – at least, most mortals. It’s a world of violence and passion and destiny, a world of secret government programs and those who’ve survived, it’s also about hope and redemption and love.
THE HOODOO SERIES (Black Dust Mambo, Black Heart Loa) world takes place in the bayous of Louisiana and in New Orleans and features the adventures of fiery Cajun hoodoo Apprentice Kallie Riviere and her friends and family. You’ll find magic, hexes, gators, sexy nomads, ghosts, a wet boxers contest, fast action and plot twists.
Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
This is my second time attending RT. The first time I attended in 2009 in Orlando, I broke my ankle less than an hour after I arrived (which required surgery once I got home) and spent the time hobbling around with the help of friends. So I think this will be more of a first time, since I’ll be able to fully explore the convention and enjoy myself.
Advice: have fun!
Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to?
I’m not scheduled for any panels, but I am on the waiting list for a few, so we’ll see! I’m looking forward to most panels on the paranormal and urban fantasy and I’m especially anticipating the panel run by the FBI agent.
If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
Me. They should look for me, that would be their best bet. If they went looking for Jeri Smith-Ready or Jeaniene Frost they would find awesome authors, but not me.
Oh. Wait. A description?
My hair might be reddish (I change color every so often) and I wear glasses. Five-eight, a tad on the plump side (working on that!), and probably in a T-shirt and jeans. You can find me for sure at two CLUB RT dates, one on Wednesday at 3:30 PM and one on Friday at 10:30 AM.
