Blood & Dogs

I keep finding reviews of Blood Noir and I’m afraid to read them! The book comes out on Tuesday and I’m going to see Hamilton at a signing on the 3rd, but I don’t know if I’ll get a chance to read it. I was going to wait to buy the book in Ann Arbor at the signing, but I’m thinking I won’t be able to wait. Here are a couple more reviews: Tez Says,

Rachel Vincent was writing about fight scenes over on her blog yesterday.

Toby Barlow. Has anyone heard of him yet? I know I haven’t, so when I read an article by Blog Critics about his debut novel Sharp Teeth, it caught my attention. The novel is definitely different, especially when this was said to describe one of the three plot lines: “Werebitch and dogcatcher – surely Romeo and Juliet were no more star-crossed than that.”

Someone has seen, and reviewed, the pilot for True Blood, which airs this September on HBO. There is also a review by Diana.

Marcia Colette, over at ShapeShifter Romance, has an interesting entry today. She was discussing her novel, Unstable Environment, and the topic of what animals would make good shapeshifters. “Imagine a 200 pound weresquirrel roaming through your backyard looking for nuts” – now that is a shifter I would never had imagine being in someones imagination. While I have no problem reading about other shifts, I mean werewolves are not the only alphas out there, there does have to be some probability to the idea as well. A weresloath would not be something I want to turn into once a month, and I can’t really see any storyline that would involve one. Colette makes some good points, but I’m curious, what animal do you guys not see as a shapeshifter?

  • The Guardian asks an interesting question…”what is it about books featuring the undead that holds us so much in thrall?” It’s actually a good question and they explore the many vampiric novels that have appeared since Bram Stoker wrote Dracula.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. In the werequestion, would it be a 200 lb. squirrel? Are the wolves the equivalent size of the human they were, or are they just wolf size? If you’re looking for an animal that would be quick, could also fly, doesn’t have strict dietary needs and can stay secret, I think your best bet is a wereroach, frankly.

Thanks for linking to my article. I’m having much more ranty thoughts this week, but some of that’s hormones.
