Weekly Update

First off, here’s today’s quote for Weekly Geeks. When I was setting this up earlier this week, I was in a Sherrilyn Kenyon type of mood, so I found some good ones from her Dark-Hunter series…

I don’t suffer from my insanity — I enjoy every minute of it. – Dance With The Devil by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Life isn’t finding shelter in the storm. It’s about learning to dance in the rain.  – Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon

With my background and genetic makeup, buddy, you’re lucky I’m as normal as I am. – Devil May Cry by Sherrilyn Kenyon

CONTEST ALERT – Jeri Smith-Ready is giving away an ARC of her upcoming Bad to the Bone.  She also has both playlists up for BB if you want a sneak peak at the chapter headings.  The contest ends on March 17th at midnight.

Some great news that I completely forgot about even though the page is still open in Firefox.  Realms of Fantasy isn’t closing! This is exciting. They were sold to Tir Na Nog Press, who is able to keep it up and running.  There’s a new website up for the magazine, but it’s kind of bare bones at the moment.  Tir Na Nog wanted to get things going quickly and get something out there while they work on making it shiny and new.

The Deadline Dames are starting a new reader-oriented project.  It’s all about us using our imagination and doing some writing ourselves. There is a prize (the anthology Eternal Lover featuring Jackie Kessler, Lynsay Sands, Richelle Mead and Hannah Howell), so if you have the time or the inclination, head over and check it out.

There is now a discussion board for all things Jocelynn Drake, so if you just HAVE to talk about Nightwalker, the upcoming Dayhunter or anything else related to Drake, head over and check it out.  On a side note, did we know that Dawnbreaker, the third Dark Days novel, is now up for preorder on Amazon?  It’s slated to be released September 29, 2009.

Literary Escapism is going to be taking part of the Keeper of Light and Dust blog tour for Natasha Mostert.  The blog tour will consist of A Novel Menagerie, little old me, The Literate Housewife Review, Wrighty’s Reads, Peeking Between The Pages, Saavy Verse & Wit and Jo-Jo Loves to Read.  It’ll be starting on April 2nd over at A Novel Menagerie and will continue throughout the month of April and I do know that a couple of those sites will be having some giveaways.  So if you’re a fan of Mostert’s Season of the Witch, then keep an eye on these blogs.  I’ll be reading Keeper of Light and Dust next, so the review will be up soon.  Here’s what you have to look forward to in Keeper of Light and Dust:

Mia Lockheart has a secret. Her mother was a Keeper, as was her grandmother—women who were warriors, healers, and protectors. As Mia practices her craft among the boxers and martial artists of South London, and begins a romance with her childhood friend, the fighter Nick Duffy, she has no idea that a man who calls himself “Dragonfly” is watching from the shadows.

Adrian Ashton is a brilliant scientist, an expert in the breaking field of biophoton emissions from cells within the human body. He is also a skilled martial artist—and a modern-day vampire. With the aid of the enigmatic Book of Life and Death, written in the thirteenth century by the legendary Chinese physician Zhang Sanfeng, he preys on other martial artists and drains them of their chi—the vital energy that flows through the body.

Mia finds herself drawn to his dark genius, but when he targets Nick as his next victim, she is forced to choose between the two men. It becomes a fight to the death in which love is both the greatest weakness and the biggest prize.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
