Black Friday is here and we’re discussing the season with Shiloh Walker’s Ezra and Lena from If You Hear Her.
A CRY IN THE WOODS
The scream Lena Riddle hears in the woods behind her house is enough to curdle her blood—she has no doubt that a woman is in real danger. Unfortunately, with no physical evidence, the local law officers in small-town Ash, Kentucky, dismiss her claim. But Lena knows what she heard—and it leaves her filled with fear and frustration.
Ezra King is on leave from the state police, but he can’t escape the guilty memories that haunt his dreams. When he sees Lena, he is immediately drawn to her. He aches to touch her—to be touched by her—but is he too burdened by his tragic past to get close? When Ezra hears her story of an unknown woman’s screams, his instincts tell him that Lena’s life is also at risk—and his desire to protect her is as fierce as his need to possess her.
Lena: Why? You’re not going to find anything for me down at the gas station.
Ezra: I uh changed my mind. I’m not at the gas station. I decided to do some shopping.
Lena: You changed your mind? You mean… you lost your mind.
Ezra: Hey, it’s out first Christmas together. I wanted to do something special.
Ezra. Not out. Our first Christmas.
Lena: And waiting until after the madness of Black Friday would make it less special?
Ezra: Are you going to tell me what size you wear or not?
Lena: Sure. I wear a size six in rings.
Ezra: Is that a hint or a test?
Lena: Nice response. Size. Ok, I wear a medium in shirts. I’d tell you my jean size, but I’d rather you didn’t buy me jeans.
Ezra: What about lingerie stuff?
Lena: You mean like bras?
Ezra: You like dragging this out dont you? No, not bras. You got a ton of them. Was thinking about those teddies or whatever they sell at victorias secret. Or those curser things.
Ezra: Corset things. Stupid Autocorrect. Well?
Lena: Try a medium. And Ezra…you can never go wrong with chocolate…sometimes they sell flavored body paint or massage lotion there, too.
Ezra: You’re trying to give me a hard on in the middle of the mall?
Lena: No. I’m trying to get you to come home quicker…
