Meet Melissa Marr!
Melissa grew up believing in faeries, ghosts, and various other creatures. After teaching college lit for a decade, she applied her fascination with folklore to writing. Wicked Lovely, the first novel, was simultaneously released in the US and UK by HarperCollins in 2007 (with translation rights also sold in seven countries). It debuted as a NY Times Bestseller. Critical responses both here and abroad have been positive. Ink Exchange, the second novel, released in late April 2008 in North America. Currently, Melissa lives in the DC area, writes full time, and still believes in faeries and ghosts.

To enter, all you have to do is answer this one question: What is your favorite faery tale? Do you like the Disney version or the more nightmarish original? Is there a movie version that does the tale fabulously? Remember, you must answer the question in order to be entered.

I’m in love with the Disney fairy-tales and “Tangled” in particular! I love the relationship between Rapunzel and Flynn although my favorite character is probably the horse Maximus!lol
My favorite is Beauty and The Beast. I have only seen the Disney version but a part of me really wishes there was a darker version. Like the Beast being more aggressive and Belle being more assertive, even though she is pretty badass in the Disney. But I would also like the romance more and the sweetness. Lol. But I do like dark fairy tales. They are so much more extreme and delves deeper into the beautiful ugly of things.
I’m not sure I have a favorite…. Let’s pick Hansel and Gretel. I never like Disneyized versions of anything, their original stories are much better. On Once Upon A Time, a few weeks ago, they did a pretty good interpretation. Grimm’s interpretation was much darker. These are TV shows, not movies, but I hope it counts. After I discovered Melissa Marr’s books, I was hooked and read them all in a few months!! Haven’t read Kelly Keaton, yet!
One of my favorite is The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. When I was a childI I liked the Disney version and the anime series from 1976, made by Nippon Animation. Now I prefer the live-action directed by and starring Roberto Benigni. :)

I really enjoy the newer twists that people are starting to put on them. It’s great to see someones imagination take off like that.
My favorite fairy tale has always been Little Red Riding Hood. While the Disney version is nice for kids, I’ve always enjoyed the darker versions of the story. There have been a few darker versions-Red Riding Hood, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, could have been had it not been dipped in “twilight glitter”. The screen play itself is very Gothic and dramatic. The Company of Wolves (1984)and Little Red Riding Hood (1997)are both horror versions and qute delightful in their make up.
A Looney Tunes version-The Trial of Mr. Wolf, is an animation made in 1941. The wold goes on trial for harassment of Red but his defense is she wanted his pelt for a fur coat. :)
I absolutely LOVE the twisted version of Alice in Wanderland! The twisted version makes the Disney version boring!
I would have to go with Red Riding Hood, not really into the cartoon version but I did watch the movie that came out not to long ago and I really liked it. Thanks for the chance to win these books, I haven’t read any of the featured Authors books before.
My favorite fairy tale is Snow White. I don’t enjoy the Disney version better. I’m really looking forward to the new movies released this year. One will be a ‘Lord of the Rings’ version with Kristen Stewart, and the other more cute Disney version with Lily Collins. I’ll probably enjoy the LOTR version better :)
I like most of Grimm’s Fairy Tales, but one of my faves is Little Red Riding Hood, I enjoyed the movie too! Disney’s Snow White is another classic favorite, but I love what the TV show, Once Upon a Time, is doing with all of the characters – especially Rumpelstiltskin – he’s my favorite, and the actor is phenomenal!
Until recently, I would have said Sleeping Beauty. However, after the release of Tangled, I would say this is my favorite. I like both retellings (dark and dazzling). There are so many retellings now a days that they are all unique and interesting. So happy for Melissa and Kelly. Congrats ladies!
My favorite fairytale has always been Beauty and The Beast, and since I have young children I love curling up and watching the Disney version.
My favorite faery tale would be Aurora in Sleeping Beauty. Man, oh man do i love that Disney movie. At first it’s all sweet, and lovey-dovey and such, but then it turns into a dark tale which i didn’t expect it to turn out so creepy (but i fell in love with it). I love the three faeries in it. Each one their own “special” color. But when i was a kid that witch who’s name is Maleficient (yes the dark evil one), OMG! she used to scare the crap out of me. Anyway, I don’t think there’s a movie version for it, but i wish there were. It’d be nice to see it in real life. :).

My favorite faery movie would be Thumbelina! I love the romance and that she needs to be rescued. I just love the magic of it. I absolutely LOVE disney movies and I do love the nightmarish faery tales too. They both have something that I really enjoy. I can’t think of a movie that embodies this concept perfectly BUT I do love that Sookie in Trueblood is a faery. I LOVE that show! I am entrigued by the new movie that’s coming out The Snow White and the Huntsman, I think it would be good. Basically I LOVE books because I can use my own imagination but I do love when my favorite books are made into movies.
I love Alice in Wonderland. I read it over and over again. I greatly dislike the Disney version, but I actually thought Tim Burton did a pretty decent job in his version. Thanks for the chance to win. Can’t wait to read either of these books.

Beauty & the Beast has to be my favourite, I saw it as a little girl and fell in love with a heroine that read about as much as I did. It was the film version that really made me fall in love with the story and years afterwards, when I read the original I kept imagining the Disney characters and “Be our guest” was running through my head throughout. I agree a darker, more adult version would be better and Beastly was ok, but not all I’d hoped.
Although I have to admit that the Grimm’s fairy tales book also made me love the darker tales just as equally. Even as a kid I enjoyed reading the darker sides, first to mind is Cinderella’s sisters cutting off their toes to fit into the slipper. ~ Melissa
P.S – Looking at all the posts relating to Tangled, I have to agree that was SUCH a brilliant disney film and I loved it, but the thing with Rapunzel was the thought of a PERSON climbing up my hair, ouch. Lol. Did anyone else feel the same ? Or am I just confirming the belief that I was a strange child ? ;-)
when i was little i loved the Disney movie The Little Mermaid, but now it would be Beauty and the Beast. I really like what the show Once Upon a Time did with it.
My favorite fairy tale will forever and always be Beauty and the Beast. I love the Disney version, but prefer reading modern adaptations (unfortunately, the recent Beastly did not live up to my wildly high expectations).
