Look Who’s Going to RT: Jessica from A GREAT Read

A Great ReadCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
I am a paranormal book addict! Have been since I was 13! One of my friends dubbed me vampire girl–which resulted in my long rant that I read other books, not just “”vampire”” books and I listed all the sorts of creatures that I read about! Of course at that time I was 15, still pre-Twilight, and I was submersed into the paranormal genre! I couldn’t read anything not paranormal!

I am also an aspiring writer myself. I’ve been querying one of my paranormals, but since it isn’t going well, I am now editing–massive editing since this first draft really sucks–my second book. I’ve been an aspiring writer since I was 13 as well. The books I wrote back then of course are horrendous and will likely never see the light of day! Of course when I need a good laugh I do pull them out!!

Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
Uhh…still aspiring, not published. But the world I am trying to create is basically our world today, now. Just with supernatural beings hiding about. So not everyone is in the know of these paranormals, but a few people do know and they will be the ones I write about!

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
This is my second RT! And I am still super excited. I guess I could say it’s my 2.5 RT, since I did go to Pittsburgh in 08, but just to the book signing! I was super determined to meet one of my fave authors and since she could never make it out my way, I went to her!

I went to RT in 2010–and Jackie, I remember meeting you in the line for Charlaine Harris! I noticed on your nametag that you were Jackie from LE, but it didn’t click with me til a bit later! However I still remember that!!–and it was just fantastic!! I learned sooo much about writing in my genre and just other little tidbits! I actually felt like I knew some of the stuff already from having gone to book signings so it was fun! And I got to meet a lot of my fave authors and that’s another thing I look forward to this year.

As for advice? Wear comfy shoes, there’s a lot of walking throughout the convention. And for events or panels you know you want to attend, arrive early to get a good seat! I’m short and I like to be able to see so I try to arrive as earl as possible!

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to?
Well, I haven’t looked at the complete list yet, guess I better since it’s likely finalized now. But the panels I plan on attending are going to be ones that I think will help with my own writing, so paranormal type ones! I also look to see who’s on certain panels and if a fave author of mine is there, I usually try going to that too!

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
A short girl who looks like she’s in high school, but is really 24 and has already graduated college–just a BA, but still. I can pass for a high school student any time!

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
