I am so totally behind

Yeah, the title says it all.  I got a wild idea of changing the site design yesterday (Sunday?) and I’ve been playing with it ever since.  Then I got annoyed with it today and remembered that I have a lot to do.  I have four reviews to write, questions to get to Jory Strong (they are coming, I promise!) and I am currently reading three separate books.  Head.  Meet desk.

I’m still going to be playing with a new design for the site, mainly the layout.  The colors and overall feel will stay the same, but I want to clean up my sidebar.  So we’ll see how this all goes.  With luck, the new design will be up next week.  Now on to the news.

Interviews:

Well, the anthology Hellbound Hearts is suppose to celebrate Clive Barker’s Hellraiser series and I think the cover for the anthology definitely enforces that idea. Hellbound Hearts will be released on September 29, 2009. Here’s the list of contributing authors: Neil Gaiman, Kelley Armstrong, Steve Niles, Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden, Mick Garris, Richard Christian Matheson, Sarah Langan, Mark Morris, Nancy Kilpatrick, Peter Atkins, Tim Lebbon, Nancy Holder, Yvonne Navarro and Nicholas Vince

Lauren Dane has the cover copy posted for her next Federation novel, Insatiable, which releases.

Nalini Singh is asking a few questions about why we read Paranormal Romance.  She’s using our responses as a way to open discussions during her panel at the RWANZ conference next month.  So go over and help her out.

ScifiGuy has the cover for the twelfth Harry Dresden novel, Changes by Jim Butcher, which releases April 6, 2010.

I’m not sure I’m feeling the new cover for Jenna Black’s The Devil’s Playground. In her current newsletter, she warned us that her publisher was going to be taking a new route with the covers, but I’m not feeling it.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great cover, but it really doesn’t say Morgan Kingsley to me.  It’s almost as if the cover is too intense for the contents.  The Devil’s Playground releases February 23, 2010 and is the fifth Morgan Kingsley novel.  Something I just thought about it…isn’t this the same trend that a lot of YA UF novels are going?  Darkest Powers (K. Armstrong), new YA versions of Study (M. Snyder), Fae (M. Marr), Soul Screamers (R. Vincent).  They are not all the same covers, but they all seem to have the same general idea.  Or is it just me?

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Hi!
Wanted to let you know I have finished the New Author Challenge. My wrap up is posted at my place, Just Books. Thanks for hosting this challenge, I have a great time picking out books for this challenge. Have a great day!

  2. I’m not feeling the Jenna Black one either. The other covers LOOKED like Morgan and this….doesn’t. It feels less personal somehow. Plus I like the ‘classic’ UF pose she had.
Oh well, it’s the story that counts. (mainly, lol)

  3. As you may have seen me mention on Twitter, the image on The Devil’s Playground is the same image on the UK version Keri Arthur’s Beneath a Darkening Moon. Jenna says it’s also on the German edition of The Devil Inside, and her US publisher liked it so much that they bought it.

I guess I’m old-fashioned, wishing each cover was commissioned especially for that book only.
