News Gone Wild

Thanks to Michelle’s Book Blog, we get to see the new cover for Victoria Laurie’s Ghouls Gone Wild.  This will be the fourth novel in her Ghost Hunter Mystery series and will be released March 2, 2010.  Side note: the title makes me think of Girls Gone Wild and I’m wondering if the similarities in the title has anything to do with the plot.  Probably not, but it is where my mind first went.

Voting for the 2009 BBAW Awards started today which also means the shortlist was announced.  Unfortunately, we didn’t make the shortlist, which didn’t surprise me considering who the competition is.  :)  However, congrats to Bibliophile Stalker, Dribble of Ink, Scifiguy.ca, The Book Zombie and The Galaxy Express for making the Best Speculative Fiction Blog shortlist.  If you want to see all the other great sites who made the cut, check out the full shortlist.  Voting for the 2009 BBAW Awards ends on Saturday, so make sure you head on over and cast your vote.

Interviews:

Katiebabs and Kmont are discussing the role of the Alpha Male in novels today.  Babbling About Books has part one of the disucssion and Lurv à la Mode has part two.  It’s quite an amusing discussion the two have going and I have to say they make a few points I tend to agree with.

Marjorie Liu has announced the title to the TENTH Dirk & Steele novel.  The Stars Below will be out sometime in June 2010. (Yeah, I screwed up.  The new D&S novel will be the tenth one, not the third :P)

SciFiGuy has the UK cover for Jaye Wells second Sabine Kane novel, The Mage in Black.  There is still no release date and I haven’t seen the US cover, but I’m hoping the two are pretty similar since this goes so well with Red-Headed Stepchild.

Ilona Andrews has posted another snippet from On the Edge.  I’ll be honest, it’s not exciting, but it does give you some insight into the character Rose.

Gena Showalter is showing off the cover for her upcoming novel, Twice as Hot, which will be released on January 26, 2010.

Angieville has a few new covers for some new Dark Pretties.  It sounds like they may be a little YA, but I’m thinking that Angie has spotlighted some novels that are going to be good.

The Galaxy Express has an interesting discussion going on about when the hero should meet the heroine.  I guess the debate is over whether they should meet within the first three chapters or if the first three chapters should be devoted entirely to worldbuilding.  Personally, for me, I do not want three chapters of world building and nothing else.  I’ll get bored.  Throw in pieces of the plot as well as a little romance.

Make sure you check out SciFiGuy’s Weekend Report for more fabulous news.  Thanks to him, I also found Fantasy Dreamer’s Ramblings and they have a great posting of news as well.

I can’t believe I forgot to mention this, but LK Hamilton has confirmed via her blog that the next Anita Blake story will be titled Flirt.  This will be another novella length book and I’ve heard we’ll be getting another Anita next year, but I haven’t heard anything that confirms that rumor yet.

What Has Caught My Attention:
I’ve been coming across Victor Gischler’s novel, Vampire a Go-Go, and the title amuses me. In my head I see this humerus sixties bopper novel, but then I saw the cover. Yeah, I don’t get that feeling any more. So my interest is definitely piqued and I’m curious if anyone has come a crossed it yet. So what do you guys think?

HORROR AT ITS SIDE-SPLITTING BEST!

Victor Gischler is a master of the class-act literary spoof, and his work has drawn comparison to that of Douglas Adams, Kurt Vonnegut, and Thomas Pynchon. Now, Gischler turns his attention to werewolves, alchemists, ghosts, witches, and gun-toting Jesuit priests in Vampire a Go-Go, a hilarious romp of spooky, Gothic entertainment. Narrated by a ghost whose spirit is chained to a mysterious castle in Prague, Gischler’s latest is full of twists and surprises that will have readers screaming — and laughing — for more.

  1. In the contest post, there is, in fact, word on when it ends. I quote from my own post, “ou have until Thursday midnight, and on Friday, I announce the five winners.”

  2. Hmm, kinda liking the cover of Vampire a-go-go.

By the way, it looks like you said the “third”, but it’s the “tenth” for the Dirk and Steele novel news tidbit. :) For a second I thought it was the third title for her Hunter Kiss series, so maybe that’s what happened.

  3. Popin – I think I’m going to break my no-borrow rule and try and find this via the library. Or I may hit borders tomorrow, either sounds like a fun option. Ooohhhh….I could see if it’s on the kindle. hehe

Ann – Thanks! I must’ve breezed over that part.

Janicu – thanks! Don’t ask me why, I knew it was the tenth, but for some reason the third was typed. I didn’t even realized it was wrong until you guys pointed it out.

  4. There’s a new Stacia Kane cover? I haven’t seen it yet. It’ll be up tomorrow then. I don’t check my Reader over the weekend (which means Mondays are generally big if anything happens), so I may have missed it.
