BBAW #1 Winners!

The winners are:

  1. What Happens in Vegas & What Happens in Vegas…After DarkBOOKLOVER1335 who said: I don’t really know if this counts but I guess one of the oddest romance couples I can think of are Néomi and Conrad from Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series. She is a phantom and he is a vampire.
  2. The Lost Duke of WyndhamJENNY N who said: The first couple that I thought of was Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy. I’ve always loved their story and the story resonates with me. I feel like they are perfect for each other and are meant for each other.

There’s no way I could post everyone’s responses, but here’s a random selection of what was giving. I tried to make sure each couple was only listed once, but some of these pairings were kind of popular. What do you guys think? Do you agree? Disagree? Who’s missing?

What are some of the oddest romance couples you have come across? What was it about them that made them odd?

  • Bonnie & Clyde because of the dangerous, yet exciting, lifestyle they led. So tragic!
  • Off the top of my head, I’d say Lula and Tank from Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series. Lula is an ex-hooker, and Tank almost never speaks, but their scenes together always crack me up. Another odd couple is Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Acheron and his heroine Tory. Ash is supposed to be this big, bad, kick-ass hunk of a god and he ended up with a not so beautiful skinny, nerdy genius for a wife. It was kind of a surprise to me, not an unwelcome surprise, just unexpected!
  • I like quirky romantic couples or those that don’t look like they should be together but you wish they would be anyway — for example, Spike and Buffy.
  • There’s nothing like the obvious human/vampire romance or human/demon romance. I particularly enjoyed the odd romance shared by Gena Showalter’s demon Maddox and human Ashlyn Darrow.
  • The couple from To Seduce a Sinner by Elizabeth Hoyt. There was no chemistry between them. Both were very odd individually and they also made an odd pair. I simply cannot explain why.
  • One of the oddest couples I’ve come across is Betsy and Sinclair from Mary Janice Davidson’s undead series. Betsy makes them odd b/c her high maintenanced and potty mouth behavior is such a contrast to the serious and conservative Sinclair. Both of them together makes up some hilarious conversations and situations! But I love them!
  • Harold and Maude (movie) immediately jumps to mind! Depressed, angst-ridden teenage boy falls in love with hippie grandma-chick. Loved it!
  • Kimberly Raye’s Lil and Ty. She is a born vamp, he is a made vamp STRIKE ONE. He has an enemy issue STRIKE TWO. He is never around due to his crazy career STRIKE THREE. They seem like they should be together, they have great chemistry, but things just don’t seem to work in their favor and if they did start to work out, I think her mother would kill him again.
  • Oddest couples? Mickey and Mallory Knox from Natural Born Killers. Brrr … a couple brought together by violence? They scare the ^%*& out of me!

Who is your favorite romantic couple and why?

  • Jamie and Claire from Outlander, because they seem to have a great time together no matter the circumstances they’re in.
  • My favorite romantic couple is Yukki Cross and Kaname Kuran. I like them because they are so different, yet he has waited for her for more than 10 years, staying in the background and letting her live her life knowing that one day she would come back to him.
  • Edward & Bella in the Twilight series because it’s what I’m reading right now and have been mesmerized by them. Such a different storyline!
  • Scarlett O’Hara & Rhett Butler because their relationship is so contentious yet they love each other
  • Darcy and Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice, their romance just never gets old for me. Also, Win and Meripen from Seduce me at Sunrise by Lisa Kleypas. I loved them.
  • Eve Dallas and Roarke from R.J. Robb’s In Death series. They are so good together. They completely understand each others needs. They have both had a bad childhood and both appreciate what they have now. They love each other very much and work out any problems that come up.
  • I have to say Ricky and Lucy! They made me laugh on their show and I think they really liked each other; although they ended up divorced.
  • Rachel and Sebastian from Patricia Gaffney’s To Have and to Hold, because they stay true to themselves throughout the whole book. Yes, Seb’s a jerk for the first half and changes drastically in the second half, but he still feels like the same person. He’s just being true to himself for the first time. And Rachel’s just… awesome. Totally awesome.
  • I like Cat and Bones. Yes they are a fictional couple but they have trust issues just like everyone else. And its refreshing to see not all couple have a great marriage in these books.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
