I am excited to welcome author Nina Crespo, who is releasing her first The Song novel, Thane’s Redemption, on Tuesday!
The one night she’ll want to remember, she’ll be forced to forget.
It’s been almost a year since Celine’s fiancé’s death and she’s still struggling to move on. But when she meets Thane, the super hot lead singer of Thane’s Redemption, she finds her desire reawakening, and her heart opening. Soon one kiss leads them straight into a night of heated passion…
Thane’s unexpected connection with Celine only leaves him wanting more of her—but his life makes it impossible. For Thane’s Redemption is just a cover for a deeper secret: A former Army Ranger presumed dead, Thane is really a time-traveling, covert operative charged with saving the world from disaster. Each jump through time forces those around him to forget he ever existed—and Celine would be no exception. But can time work in their favor to give them a second chance at love? Or will a choice Thane makes in the future put Celine in mortal danger?…
Literary Escapism: For those of my readers unfamiliar with Thane’s Redemption, can you give us a brief look at your novel and what they would be missing out on? Something we haven’t seen yet?
Nina Crespo: Almost a year has passed, but Celine is still struggling to get over the death of her fiancé. Her concerned best friends take her out for a night of fun. She meets Thane, the super hot, lead singer of Thane’s Redemption. Thane and Celine enter into a night of heated passion and experience a true connection. Unfortunately, a shocking reality will come between them. He’s really a time-traveling, covert operative tasked to save the world from disaster. Each jump through time forces those around him to forget he ever existed. The question explored in the story: Will time work in their favor to give them a chance at love or put Celine in mortal danger?
LE: Between being a time traveling covert op and lead singer for a successful rock band, it seems Thane has a lot going on. How does he take control of the chaos that pops into his life? Is there a side to Thane that we don’t get to see in Thane’s Redemption?
NC: Music is Thane’s salvation. It’s the constant that is always there for him. The side we don’t get to see is him alone, playing one of the guitars in his collection and finding peace. Celine is the only person he could imagine being with in that moment which is why what she shares in the story as the perfect day touches him.
LE: Can you introduce us to a few of the side characters that we’ll be meeting, or who will play an important role to/for Thane? Was there a character who made a bigger impact on the story than expected?
NC: Dalir is an ancient warrior who gave Thane and his team/band the gift of traveling time. The reason for Dalir’s existence (gift or curse) and doing what he does is something that Thane questions. That curiosity has prompted me to save a story in the series for Dalir.
LE: Why Celine? What was it about Celine that drew you to her and decide she was the perfect girl for Thane?
NC: Thane’s sacrifice connects him to Celine through her loss. Attraction draws them to each other, but the understanding that connection brings is what bonds them initially as a couple.
LE: Does your mood ever affect the direction that your stories take? Has any of your stories began one way, but by the time you wrote The End, had the mood drastically changed and how did it affect the story?
NC: I can’t say mood has impacted a story’s direction, but it has helped me shape a character’s personality. Sitting in their shoes, experiencing their mood/state of mind, has allowed me to better understand their motivation.
LE: What is your favorite scene in Thane’s Redemption? What makes it so special – characters, setting, dialogue, action?
NC: One of my favorite scenes is when Thane and Celine first meet. I especially enjoyed writing their inner dialogue and those first moments of budding attraction.
LE: What are you working on? What do readers have to look forward to? Can we expect more from the world of Thane’s Redemption?
NC: I’m working on Reid’s story, the next book in The Song series. As the series progresses, we’ll find out who else is making changes in the future and why. We’ll also find out more about Dalir. When I’m not writing The Song series, I’m working on contemporary romance. I’m currently writing the third book in my Birthday Dare series.
LE: When you’re not writing, what are you reading? Have you found an author that’s new to you and/or one that the rest of the world really needs to find? Is there a certain niche genre that you prefer to escape to? If so, why?
NC: Right now, I’m reading non-fiction—Chris Kyle’s autobiography, American Sniper. Slipping away into a real story is sometimes the greatest escape for me.
LE: And my favorite question to ask…Which authors do you read and/or think “Damn! I wish I had thought of that”?
NC: My current, “Damn! I wish I had thought of that”, doesn’t come from a particular book or author. Lately, I’m fascinated by how the writers of TV and film have taken characters I shouldn’t like or should judge their behavior as unacceptable and convinced me to like them (e.g. Jax/Son’s of Anarchy, Jake/Scandal, John/John Wick, Vlad/Dracula Untold). The layers of the characters are unwrapped in a way, that as you get to know them and see their vulnerability, you can’t help but empathize and cheer them on. There’s brilliance in that type of storytelling.
