Demonic Spirits & Vampires

Check out the totally hot cover Dakota Cassidy has for Accidentally Demonic, the fourth Accidental Friends novel, which comes out February 2, 2010.

I was updating some of the dates on the upcoming releases page and came across two novels I haven’t seen yet.  The fifth Glory St. Clair novel by Gerry Bartlett, Real Vampires Hate Their Thighs, will be out February 2, 2010. It even has a cover – check it out!  You can read the excerpt for the latest Glory novel here.

While also on Amazon, I noticed that the ninth Love at Stake novel by Kerrelyn Sparks has a title.  The Vampire and the Virgin will be out February 23, 2010 and all I know is the hero is Robbie McKay.

Interviews:

The Penguin Group has this feature going right now called Project Paranormal.  They are talking to some of today’s hottest paranormal authors in very lengthy interviews, all of which are talking about their amazing series.  Here’s the list of authors who have been up so far:

  • Laurell K. Hamilton, author of the Anita Blake and Meredith Gentry series
  • JR Ward, author of the Black Dagger Brotherhood and Fallen Angels series
  • Charlaine Harris, author of the Southern Vampire series (aka Sookie Stackhouse)
  • Christine Feehan, author of the Ghostwalker and Carpathian series
  • Project Paranormal also did a spotlight on the Romance Writers of America where we were taken behind the scenes of the 2009 RWA

Exciting news for Kalayna Price, author of Once Bitten.  She has just signed with Ace for a mutli-book deal and has turned in the sequel to Once BittenSF Scope has all the details.

Check out what Tez Says found – it’s the cover for Spirit Bound, the fifth Vampire Academy novel by Richelle Mead. And look who’s on the cover. I can’t wait to see what happens between Dimitri and Rose!  Spirit Bound comes out May 18, 2010.  Tez also has the UK cover for Rachel Caine’s Morganville Vampire novel, Fade Out, which comes out November 3rd.

Maggie Stiefvater has posted a short story up at Merry Sisters of Fate.  In other free reads, Lauren Dane has posted an excerpt of her upcoming novel, Coming Undown.

I’m browsing through SciFiGuy’s Weekend Report and I see this:

The craziness continues with Galleycat reporting that Del Rey Books just bought Porter Grand’s “Little Women and Werewolves” – remixing the classic novel with a wolfish twist. Here’s a description of the forthcoming werewolf version:

In this retelling of Louisa May Alcott’s classic, the beloved little women must keep not just the wolf, but the werewolves, from the door…and the kindly old gentlemen next door and his grandson may have some secrets to hide–or share with the March girls.

Seriously?!  First we get Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.  Then came Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters and now they are messing with Little Women by Louisa May Alcott?  I know there are a ton of authors out there with original stories, so do we really need to bastardize the classics?  Granted, they may be great stories, and I’ll be honest, I have more of an interest in reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies than Pride and Prejudice, but why not get something new and exciting?  I would much rather see Shanna Swendson get her fifth Katie Chandler novel published than a remake on a classic.  So I have to ask…do these remakes of the classics interest you or are you like me and want to see something new?  In either case, why?

Contests:
Suburban Vampire is giving away two copies of the Blood Ties: season two DVD collection, which is based on the novels by Tanya Huff.  Contest ends October 18th.

Park Avenue Princess is giving away a complete boxed set of the Harry Potter novels. Contest ends October 16th.

SciFiGuy has a ton of contests listed on his Weekend Report.  There are so many, I’m not going to try and copy them here.

Patricia’s Vampire Notes is giving away a copy of the anthology Hellbound Hearts.  Patricia is also having a giveaway extravaganza for Halloween.  She’ll be giving away five different prizes.  Both contests end on October 31st.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
