LKH showed off the newest Anita Blake cover this month. Skin Trade will be released June 3, 2009. LKH also announced that the Anita Blake series was optioned for film and it looks like it’s going to be a realty. Thanks to SciFi Guy for pointing me towards this:
Lionsgate to produce Anita Blake for IFC (27/10/08)
US cable network IFC has commissioned Lionsgate to make a two hour sci fi pilot based on vampire novel Anita Blake. The series, which is based on a series of erotic fantasy books by Laurell K Hamilton, is set to be executive produced by X-Files and Final Destination producer Glen Morgan.
Craig Cegielski, EVP, programming and sales, Lionsgate International Television, told TBIvision that the Rainbow Media-owned broadcaster will air the two hour pilot next year, before deciding whether to order a full season. “It’s a sexier Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” he says.
The New Releases page has been updated! Plus, there’s a bunch of new preorders available at Amazon, here’s just a sample:
- An Early Grave by Jeaniene Frost (Night Huntress #4) – 7/28/09

I just found out that Borders and Waldenbooks will not be carrying Jenna Black’s The Devils’ Due! This is terrible news! We need to go out to our Borders and ask them to stock this novel. Otherwise, Jenna has little to no chance of getting on any of the National Bestsellers list. So go out and get a copy of The Devils’ Due.
Jenna Black still doesn’t know what pen name she’ll be writing under for her young adult series, but she does know the name of the first book. It’ll be called Glimmerglass. In more Jenna Black news, she’s telling us that the release date for the fourth Kingsley Morgan novel, Speak of the Devil, will be out August 2009.
Author Jo Leigh lost her husband to cancer this year and the romance community is getting to together to help raise money in order to help pay off some of the medical bills. This is awesome for readers because a ton of books are being put up for auction as a way to raise money and some of them are even ARCs. So make sure you head over to For Jo Leigh and see what they have.
Melissa Marr has a new cover for her novel, Fragile Eternity, which will be out April 21, 2009. She’s not announcing where or when yet, but Marr is already planning a 10-12 city tour for Fragile Eternity. I’m not sure if I’m going to say this right, but it appears that Wickedly Lovely started a series, but it’s going to end after 5 novels. Ink Exchange is the next novel in the series, but it doesn’t involve the same characters from Wickedly Lovely. However, book 3 and 5 will involve the characters from Wickedly Lovely and book 4, while still part of the series, will not have the original characters. Does that make sense? I’m not sure what the third novel will be called, but the working title for book 4 is Beautiful Deceptions.

I am taking submissions for the December Bookworm Carnival stop at Literary Escapism. The theme is historical fiction, so email me your reviews and let me know which century the book takes place in and I’ll add it to the carnival.
Completely off topic, but….Scrubs is back and will premiere on ABC January 6th @ 9pm EST!! I still need to catch up with the seventh season, but at least ABC realized NBC’s mistake by taking it off the air.
Urban Fantasy Land posted the news that J.F. Lewis was recently kicked out of his non-denomiational church for his debut novel, Staked. I don’t know what to think of this. Honestly, we’re talking about an author who created fictitious characters in a fictitious world. Nothing about the novel has occurred in real life, correct me if I’m wrong, but the church actually accused him of “committing the sins contained within it [Staked]”. It shocks and amazes me that people would have this mentality regarding paranormal novels. There’s more discussion going on over at Asimovs.com forum, but if you want to show some love to JF Lewis, then head on over to his website. He’s also one of the adolescent adults at A League of Reluctant Adults (such a great site).
I just came across an interesting site. The Author’s Attic is a jewelry shop that specializes in re-creating jewelry featured in literature. I’m a huge fan of Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series and the Author’s Attic has created some of the pieces from that series. They look fabulous and even though I have an allergy to certain metals, I may just brave it and order a piece or two. They also have pieces for Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, and Anya Seton.
Eileen Wilks has posted an excerpt for Mortal Sins, the fifth novel in her World of the Lupi series. Mortal Sins is due out February 3, 2009.
There’s some great news by Sherrilyn Kenyon. If you’ve read One Silent Night, then you obviously know about the story arc twist. Well, OSN started a new one, but it also started a new spinoff series. Nick is going to have his own series called The Chronicles of Nick. It’s going to start when Nick first meets Kyrian and Acheron and a lot of the original characters from early on will be around. There isn’t a release date yet, or a working title for the first novel, but we just have to be patient.
Sookie will be back next year in Dead and Gone and check out this gorgesou cover. It looks like we may finally have a showdown between Bill and Eric.
Anya Bast has a new novel coming out. It’s called Taken and will be released February 2009. Here’s the blurb for it…
Sometimes love knocks softly…and sometimes it breaks down your door.
Anne’s morning starts like any other normal day—and ends in a race for her life. The surprise that interrupts her regular date with a latte looks a lot like Frankenstein, except this monster is for real. And it chases her straight into the arms of two mouthwatering hunks who whisk her away from everything she knows. That would be Earth.
Suddenly life isn’t so normal anymore.
Caleb and Van have been watching Anne for several weeks. Women are scarce in their world, a situation that sometimes forces two or more males to share one wife between them. Anne is their perfect match. Now all they have to do is convince her of that—while trying desperately not to let their intense desire for her scare her away.
Then there’s the little matter of protecting her from the Guardians, who want to make sure no match is ever made…
I can’t remember how old this is, but Kim Harrison already has a tour schedule for White Witch, Black Curse and I know I will be at one of the stops. Here are the cities: Ann Arbor, MI (probably the Borders on Lohr St); Austin, TX; Charlotte, NC; Chicago, IL; Dayton, OH (probably at Books & Co on the green – I’m told she stops there ever year); Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; San Diego, CA; and Seattle, WA. None of the dates have been posted, but the tour will occur between February and May 2009, so keep an eye out and I’ll post the info as soon as I have it.
Kelley Armstrong is taking advantage of some downtime to update her website a little. We now have sample chapters for Made to be Broken and Awakening, plus her store at CafePress has some new stuff.
Here are the covers for Kelley Armstrong’s Frostbitten (November 2009), Caitlin Kiernan’s Red Tree (August 4, 2009), Maria Snyder’s Storm Glass (April 28, 2009), and Caitlin Kittredge’s Street Magic (June 2, 2009).
Keri Arthur brought us up to speed on a couple of novels that will be coming from her over the next couple of years. First up, she’s going to be centering a series around Risa, Dia’s little girl from the Riley Jensen series. The good/bad news is she won’t be starting it until she ends the Riley series. I’m sure you can tell where the good/bad news comes in. However, the final book in the Riley series won’t be until sometime in 2010, so we’ll still get a bit of Riley for awhile yet. She doesn’t have a working title for Risa’s first book, but Dark Angel is being tossed around. The Risa series will focus more on the vampire council and the spirit world, so it won’t be just like the Riley series.
The 8th Riley novel, Bound by Shadows, will be out September 2009, so that means we’ll be getting two Rileys in one year…yea! It’s not up on Amazon yet, wishful thinking I know, but I’ll let you know once it does. Also, keep an eye on Keri’s website, she just got several ARCs of Deadly Desire and they might end up as prizes for contests.
Oh, and the third Myth and Magic novel by Keri Arthur will be called Hope Shatters, but I haven’t seen a release date yet.
Janet Evanovich has a new Between-the-Numbers novel being released on January 6, 2009. Plum Spooky is being called the first full length Between-the-Numbers in the Stephenie Plum universe and brings us a legend called the Jersey Devil. You can read excerpt one and two here. I’ve also seen that Evanovich will have a new Stephenie Plum short story, The Last Peep, in the upcoming anthology The Plot Thickens, well, I’m not sure if it’s already out or not. According to Amazon, The Plot Thickens was out in 1997, but it may be a re-release. The authors included are: Lawrence Block, Edna Buchanan, Mary Higgins Clark, Carol Higgins Clark, Janet Evanovich, Linda Fairstein, Walter Mosley, Nancy Pickard, Ann Rule, and Donald E. Westlake. My guess is it’s going to be a re-release since all of profits will be donated to Literacy Partners, a national organization dedicated to promoting reading among disadvantaged adults.
Finally, I’ve been looking for information on the anthology Unbound that will be released next year and I couldn’t remember who was in it. I knew Melissa Marr, but she wasn’t the headliner and I haven’t been able to find anything else on it. Now I can say that I know who will be in it and when it will be out. Unbound will be a dark fantasy anthology featuring Kim Harrison, Melissa Marr, Jeaniene Frost, Vicki Pettersson and Jocelynn Drake. Now that is exciting. I am fans of all of those authors and to have them all in one novel is going to make Unbound a great read. The sad news is it won’t be released until August 25, 2009, so there’s a bit of a wait for it.
Karen Chance has a free story up at her site featuring Tomas from the Cassie Palmer world. The story, The Day of the Dead, takes us to Mexico City where Tomas doesn’t appear to be up to any good.
Tons of new cover releases this month, so here are some more….Richelle Mead’s Storm Born (August 2009), , and Rachel Caine’s Undone (Feb. 3, 2009), Lord of Misrule (January 6, 2009), and Mark del Franco’s Unfallen Dead (January 27, 2009).
So check out what I just came across….The Dracula Library, which includes books either on vampires or by vampire-related authors. Talk about a great place to go looking for new novels. You can also find novels on all of our other favorite paranormal creatures by going to the parent library site – CESNUR Library.
There is also a rumor going around that Whedon is going to resurrect Buffy for the big screen with all the success Twilight has been getting. There’s been rumors for awhile now and I’ve heard that all of the characters would be willing to do it, if the script was good enough; however, none of that has been discussed recently. So we’ll see if anything comes from this. I wouldn’t mind seeing Angel and Spike and the Scooby Gang up on the big screen, but at the same time, I wouldn’t mind seeing a new generation of slayer with new problems that could result in a new series for the television either. Here are a few other sources for this rumor: Variety, Brendoman, and End of Show.
There is still nothing on the new JR Ward novel being released in April, Lover Avenged, but there is a cover for it. The only place I’ve seen it is on Amazon, but I’ve noticed that Ward isn’t exactly great about updating her website. She never had the Insider’s Guide cover up until after it was released, so who knows whether this will be the cover or not, but all I have to say is it’s gorgeous. I love the play on black and gray and I can’t wait to read Rehvenge’s story.
Kat Richardson’s Vanished (August 4, 2009), Yasmine Galenorn’s Demon Mistress (June 2, 2009), and JR Ward’s Lover Avenged (April 28, 2009).
This may not be news to some, but it’s exciting news for me and I just saw it. Katie MacAlister has mentioned on her blog that Holy Smokes is the last Aisling Grey narrated novel, but Aisling, Drake and Jim will still have major roles in the subsequential novels featured in her world. I’m excited about that since I love Drake and Aisling. MacAlister has also mentioned, that while she was suppose to write the next Kate Marsh novel, that has been pushed back so she can work on a new idea that popped up. She isn’t saying what the new idea is or what’s it about, but she has said that it’s “something that had never been done in romance“, so we’ll have to wait for more information.
Laurell K Hamilton has added to her merchandise by including t-shirts with artwork from Brett Booth. I have to say, I like this design of Anita’s penguin. And this one too.
Oh! Great news for fans of MaryJanice Davidson who did not like the cover for Undead and Unworthy (I’m one of those if you can’t tell). I’ve heard they are going to be releasing Undead and Unworthy with a new cover in a trade paperback edition before going to mass market. Now I haven’t seen this officially anywhere on the web, just as a rumor, but I’m hoping it’s true.
News for the Nalini Singh crowd….there is going to be another Psy-Changeling novel after Branded by Fire. It is going to be Dev’s novel and will be released in 2010. There isn’t a working title or anything, but we will have more and that’s all that matters right now. Branded by Fire comes out July 7, 2009. Also, Singh will be involved in the anthology Must Love Hell Hounds, which comes out September 2009. The story she is contributing is called Angels’ Judgement and is set in the universe of her new series, the Guild Hunters. Also included in the anthology are Charlaine Harris, Meljean Brook and Ilona Andrews. This appears to be another great collection of authors.
Thanks for the shout and the great info!! So many books are on my pre-order list ;)
I wish there was an award for the best genre monthly newsletter in the blogosphere because yours would win hands down. Always a pleasure.
TWQrgC Excellent article, I will take note. Many thanks for the story!
