Warriors & Mermaids in Black

Is George R R Martin’s new anthology, Warriors, on your wishlist? It should be. Check out this great cover and look who’s appearing in it.  It’s right under his name…Diana Gabaldon!  Warriors will be released March 2010 and Suvudu has the complete list of stories.

Also, check out the cover to Joey Hill’s upcoming A Mermaid’s Ransom, which releases in December.  SciFiGuy has the blurb for the book if you’re interested.  Joey is a new author for me, but I have heard that her Vampire Servant novels are awesome and which are glaring at me to read (soon my pretties), so if you have read her, what do you think?

CONGRATULATIONS DOUG!!

SciFiGuy won the Book Bloggers Appreciation Week Award for Best Speculative Fiction.

Interviews:

In spectacular news, Universal Pictures just acquired the right to make Melissa Marr’s Wicked Lovely into a feature film.  As reported by Variety,Wickedly Lovely will be produced by Wild West Picture Show Productions and will be adapted to the screen by Caroline Thompson (who also did Edward Scissorhands, Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpus Bride).

Have you ever wanted to try Kresley Cole’s Immortal After Dark series?  Now you can.  She’s offering up A Warlord Wants Forever as a free download.  I’m not sure how long it’s going to be up, so I would get it while you can.

MTV News is reporting that Aprilynn Pike’s Wings will be made into a feature film and will star Mily Cyrus in the lead role.  The film is being produced by Temple Hill Productoins, the same people behind Twilight. The film will be distributed by Disney, so take that as you like.

Jeaniene Frost has announced the title for the second Night Huntress World novel, which will feature Mencheres.  The title is Eternal Kiss of Darkness.  I have to say I like.

I want to say we’ve seen the cover for Jaye Well’s The Mage in Black, but if you haven’t SciFiGuy has both the UK and US versions posted today.  The Mage in Black is the second Sabine Kane novel.  Okay, so I’m now actually thinking it hasn’t been since Jaye just posted it on her blog as well. Either way, here it is along with a blurb:

Sabina Kane doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to family. After all, her own grandmother, leader of the vampire race, wants her dead. So when she arrives in New York to meet her mage relatives, the reunion puts the fun in dysfunctional.

Not only is mage culture completely bizarre, but everyone seems to think she’s some kind of ‘Chosen’ who’ll unite the dark races. Sabina doesn’t care who chose her, she’s not into destiny. But mages aren’t Sabina’s only problem. In New York’s Black Light District, she has run-ins with fighting demons, hostile werewolves and an opportunistic old flame.

Sabina thought she’d take a bite out of the Big Apple – but it looks like it wants to bite back.

Amazon is showing their #amazonfail yet again.  They are now telling LibraryThing they have to remove all other bookseller links from their pages or they cannot use their data farm.  Well, fine then Amazon.  Library Thing is complying, but they are actually being smart about it.  Click here to see the new changes that will be made the next time they upgrade.

Rachel Vincent has thrown up an excerpt for Shift over at the Deadline Dames.  Be warned, if you haven’t read the series, then this will be a spoiler.  Lauren Dane has also put up an excerpt for her upcoming novel, Trinity.  Ilona Andrews has also put up another snippet from On the Edge (review to be posted soon).

There’s a new book club in town and we can all thank Michelle Hauf for it.  VampireChix is starting up The Bite Club.  If you’re looking for a strictly vampire book group, this is the stop to be.  The first book being bitten into is The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance 2 and will be discussed on October 30th.  For more info, you can check out The Bite Club or SciFiGuy.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Thanks for all the linkage and the mention of the award. I am absolutely thrilled. But the really big thanks goes to all the bloggers and readers that have made the site what it is. I am really looking forward to the Vaughn, Gabaldon, Hobb and Novik stories in the Warriors anthology.

  2. I love George R.R. Martin’s books. I didn’t even realize he was editing a new anthology. Thanks for the heads up! I’ll have to add it to my Amazon wish list so I can grab a copy whenever it’s released. Though, I have to admit, sometimes I wish he’d stop working on other projects and spend all his time on his Song of Ice and Fire series so we can find out how it ends.
