Have you ever gotten a really good idea while you’re chatting it up with a friend and then BOOM it just sticks in your head? When I posted the review for Four Dukes and a Devil, Nicola (Alpha Heroes) really got me thinking when she starting talking about a weekly antholopalooza instead of a one month shot. The basic idea is it would be a weekly meme were people could post reviews of short stories (from anthologies or other collections) and then come back to either Alpha Heroes or Literary Escapism and leave a link in a central location. Kind of like a Thursday Thirteen or Sunday Salon.
Anthologies are a great way of finding new authors and a ton of them have been popping up lately. While I don’t normally have any issues with posting reviews for anthologies as a single post, there have been a couple of times where the anthologies are just too big and I couldn’t review all of them. I’ve been seeing a lot of “reviewettes” popping up and I can see the merit in them. I currently have The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance sitting on my shelves and this would be a perfect way to review it.
The way this is going to work is Nicola and I are going to be switching off months. We’ll be starting the meme in December at Alpha Heroes where Nicola will be your ringmaster through the holidays. Then in January, we’ll be bringing the party to Literary Escapism where I’ll be your slave driver. :) So basically, the odd months are mine and the even months are Nicolas.
So this is a new idea…what do you guys think?
Yay! I’m really looking forward to this. The first round-up with linkies will be Dec 5 — I’ll probably be featuring something from the fab anthology Never After.
I’m thinking I’ll have something from either The Eternal Kiss or Strange Brew. Not sure yet.
And just in case no one caught on, this is your warning so if you want to participate, you’ll have time to read and review any short stories.
This sounds interesting. I’m willing to contribute.
That sounds pretty neat. I wouldn’t mind at all.
I’d be willing to do some of this, within reason. Thanks for organizing. SB Frank @Fanlitfrankly (was urbanfantasyfan)
