First Drop of Crimson Contest!!

I am a huge fan of Jeaniene Frost (if you haven’t guessed that already) and her forum is the only one I’m really active on.  So imagine my shock, surprised and excited face when I found a copy of First Drop of Crimson, the first novel in her Night Huntress World, in my mailbox.  I was giddy beyond belief.  I mean, seriously, doesn’t this sound amazing?

The night is not safe for mortals. Denise MacGregor knows all too well what lurks in the shadows—her best friend is half-vampire Cat Crawfield—and she has already lost more than the average human could bear. But her family’s past is wrapped in secrets and shrouded in darkness—and a demon shapeshifter has marked Denise as prey. Now her survival depends on an immortal who lusts for a taste of her.

He is Spade, a powerful, mysterious vampire who has walked the earth for centuries and is now duty-bound to protect this endangered, alluring human—even if it means destroying his own kind. Denise may arouse his deepest hungers, but Spade knows he must fight his urge to have her as they face the nightmare together . . .

Because once the first crimson drop falls, they will both be lost.

It’s Denise and Spade!  For those who have read the Night Huntress novels, both of these characters have appeared there and now we get to read their story.  I will tell you right now, First Drop of Crimson is fabulous.  Not only can it be read as a stand alone, but we’re introduced to demons and the ending is completely not what I was expecting.  I could go on, but I’ll save that for my review, which will go up closer to its release date of February 9th.

However, you’re probably wondering why I’m bringing this up, right?  If you thought I was happy when First Drop of Crimson first showed up, you should have seen my face when the second copy showed up.  That’s right, I have two ARCs of this gem sitting on my desk right now and I don’t need two of them.  So I’m going to give one away.

In order to get your hands on the wonderful novel that is First Drop of Crimson, all you have to do is answer this question: How did you find the Night Huntress novels and Jeaniene Frost?  Did someone introduce her to you?  Did you randomly come across her in the store (much like I did)?  If you haven’t read her yet, what is it about her novels that pique your interest? International entries are welcome, but shipping may be delayed a little! Meaning you might not get it before the release date.

As always, there’s more ways of getting your name in the hat:

  1. Holy crap! In all my excitement I forgot to answer your question! *sigh* Figures.. Anyway, I found her books by accident, I actually remember not being sure about reading them but gave Cat and Bones a chance and it paid off! :)

  2. I came across Jeaniene Frost at my school library. It was the last two weeks of school and I wanted to read somethng, and I picked up One Foot in the Grave. I read it, loved it and wanted to find out what happened that led to Cat leaving Bone. So , I was going to Poland soon, so I needed to buy something to read. I bought Halfway to the Grave and At Grave’s End. Read HTTG about 20 times. Found out before leaving that Jeaniene soon after my leaving publishes another book, and once I came back I bought it. I’ve bben hooked on everything Paranormal Romance and Jeaniene Frost ever since, her books also helped me decide that YA novles miss out a lot of passion in a relationship.

  3. I was cruising the bookstore for ideas when I came across the Night Huntress series. The cover actually caught my attention, then the write-up hooked me. Only the first two were out at the time, so I’ve been agonizing over the wait periods in between books ever since then. I love them sooooo much. They’re just a perfect blend of action and adventure and romance. Now I have a a book club full of ladies who’ve read them, and ended up buying the series for themselves, lol. I CAN NOT WAIT to get my hands on First Drop of Crimson!! Spade is such an interesting character, I love what we’ve seen of him so far in the series. And have you SEEN the cover!!! WOWZA!!

  4. I was trolling the aisles of a Barnes & Nobel, desperately seeking an edgy, absorbing vampire book about a female hero who kicked butt. And there it was, Halfway to the Grave. The cover art grabbed me and after I read the jacket, I was completely sold. I couldn’t wait to get started so when I slid into a seat on a tightly packed subway car, I immediately stared to read. I howled when Cat approached Bones with her daring question, and I did not give a hoot that I drew strange looks from my fellow riders on the NYC subway. I’ve been on a fast moving train ever since and I refuse to get off. Next stop, First Drop of Crimson.

  5. I first heard of Halfway to the Grave when I was on my massive search for moar zombie novels. I put this title down on my to-read list, but haven’t actually got around to reading it as of yet. *ashamed* But the excerpt I read from HttG sounded fun and I’m willing to try other Frost’s works even sans zombies. =D

  6. I randomly picked up One Foot in the Grave while shopping at Borders one day. I hadn’t really ventured into the romance section much, but figured I’d give it a shot because I loved the cover and the blurb sounded really cool. Of course, when I got home, I realized I had bought book #2, so I had to rush back out and get book #1 ASAP. I devoured them in about three days and then passed them on to my roommate.

And I will of course post a review on my blog. :)

  7. I got hooked on Jeaniene’s books by fellow fans which I met on another author’s message board.
Someone from Jeaniene’s board came over to the Vicki Pettersson board and started talking smack to Vicki about how she had claimed Bones, some old inside joke, apparently.
This created an uproar amongst the members of the board that knew of the character.
I had to investigate further, and figure out more about this “Bones” character.
I went out and picked up the first book and tore lovingly through it, fiending for the next one.
    I’m now officially hooked.

(This contest has been pimped on the Vicki Pettersson board!) :)

  8. Vicki Pettersson told me about a new author(Jeaniene Frost)and her first book a few years ago. Jeaniene sent me a signed bookplate for ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE and once I read the first book, I was hooked on this series. She deserves to be on the NYT, her story telling is wonderful. I only hope that her publisher will make a very wise choice and allow her to tell us Vlad’s story…after Mencheres’ story and the next Cat&Bones book of course.

  12. I came across the Night Huntress series when I was looking on the Amazon PNR forum for suggestions of something new to read. Everyone had such good things to say about the series that I couldn’t resist. And I’m glad I didn’t!

  13. How did you find the Night Huntress novels and Jeaniene Frost? From Charlaine Harris’s forums.
Did someone introduce her to you? Many of the forum users had recommended.
Did you randomly come across her in the store (much like I did)? No
If you haven’t read her yet, what is it about her novels that pique your interest?

I just became a fan on facebook and now am following on twitter.
I already own all four books hardcopy and have begun to but again in kindle version, so sorry, I didn’t buy again.

  14. After being so drawn into the Twilight series, I didn’t think I’d ever read another series again. Then a friend offered her copies to me to read, pushing and prodding me that I HAVE to read these, they are sooo good. I didn’t jump into them right away, but about halfway through the first book, I could not put them down. I had read the whole series in less than 2 weeks. Jeanine did such a great job with them, I am soo excited to dive into FDOC!! Spade and Denise series…yum! And have actually been spreading by word of mouth to other frenzy book reader friends that this is the best vampire series ever!

  15. I came across them at the local library just by chance and then read whatever I could find in the next few weeks. “one Foot in the Grave” I bought because the library copy was missing, but it was so worth it.

  17. I was in the bookstore looking for something to read. My friend Casey who is a big reader gave me this list of 10 books she thought I would like. They did NOT have even so much as one of the books one the list. At that point I was soooo mad; I just really started to read and I was all out of books. (I have to have something to read all the time now) I came across Jeaniene Frost, and I thought what a cool name :). I bought the first book. Loved it so much that I went and got all of the rest of them that very same day. Now I have turn my friend Casey, her friend and my Aunt into a Bones lover. We call it the Bones series when we talk about the books. Can’t wait to read more!!!!

  18. Kim Harrison.
And it was a complete stumble, or as I like to think of it, some sort of divine intervention leading me to Cat & Bones.lol :)

The bookshops in my area (or maybe all england) don’t really stock Paranormal/romance, Urban fanstasy etc. It’s only really mainstream authors like Charlaine Harris, Christine Feehan and sherrilyn kenyon as well as a few others, so I’m always browsing the net lookign for books and reading excerpts. (which I why I love Literary Escapism so much, it’s all under one roof! Lol)

Anyway (before I discovered literary Escapism) I was looking on Kim Harrisons site, pining for the next Hollows novel and looking for something to read. She has a whole list of books (now ‘people I know’ http://www.kimharrison.net/Links.htm) and links to the authors. I clicked on all of them, and the excrept of Halfway to the Grave had me so invested, I ordered from Amazon straight away. Since then, I’ve been pining for the next Night Huntress novel. The only bad thing was that I’d have to wait for the release of One Foot In the Grave, but sometime before the third book came out, I joined Jeaniene’s forum (FrostFans, http://www.frostfans.com/forums/) and found people just as crazy as me waiting for the next book! Lol.

P.s, Sorry for the essay! :D
