Bookworms Carnival #40: Urban Fantasy/Gothic Literature Post-2000

18 November 2009 Jackie 7

I am on so many levels way behind on posting this. I humbly apologize to everyone and will get down on my knees and grovel if the need arises. I’ve been playing catch-up in a lot of areas (both on the blog and out of it) and I’m still trying to get through a lot.

But excuses aside….

WELCOME TO THE 40 EDITION OF THE BOOKWORMS CARNIVAL!

I have got to say that everyone came through. A day or two before the deadline, I had three reviews that were submitted for this carnival. I threw out a plea for more and look what I got! Talk about a link salad. There are some great novels being discussed below, so hopefully everyone will find something to whet their reading appetite. But you’re not here to listen to me, here we go…

Iron Stars Mistress

17 November 2009 Jackie 2

Check out the cover I found over at Lovin’ Me Some Romance. It’s the cover for Joey W. Hill’s upcoming The Vampire Mistress. This will be the fifth book in Hill’s Vampire Queen series and will be released May 2010.

Have you ever wanted your own stun gun? SyFy’s Sanctuary is auctioning off one of their season 2 Sonic Stunners which was used in three episodes. They are talking about redesigning the stunner for season 3 with less of a steampunk look, so this is definitely worth it for anyone who wants to shell out over $600 for it.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

This week’s teaser is: Evernight by Claudia Gray. This is one novel that’s currently sitting on my shelf, patiently waiting for me to get to it.

My Shy Mind Wants to Know…

17 November 2009 Jackie 10

For those who don’t know me, I can be extremely shy around people I don’t know. This is pretty much the main reason why you really don’t see that many authors stopping by Literary Escapism compared to other sites. I love telling people where authors are visiting (as I’m sure you’ve been able to tell), but the idea of emailing an author and asking if they would be willing to stop at Literary Escapism for a guest post completely terrifies me. I mean, they are either writing or going about their probably busy lives, so I’m not really comfortable interrupting that.

But here I go rambling again.

I was looking for something a little light and was quickly reminded of Shelly Laurenston’s Magnus Pack series. I read her story Miss Congeniality in the anthology When He Was Bad and decided she may just be wanted I needed, so I picked up a copy of the first novel, […]

Short Story Saturdays

14 November 2009 Jackie 5

Short Story Saturday MemeHave you ever gotten a really good idea while you’re chatting it up with a friend and then BOOM it just sticks in your head? When I posted the review for Four Dukes and a Devil, Nicola (Alpha Heroes) really got me thinking when she starting talking about a weekly antholopalooza instead of a one month shot. The basic idea is it would be a weekly meme were people could post reviews of short stories (from anthologies or other collections) and then come back to either Alpha Heroes or Literary Escapism and leave a link in a central location. Kind of like a Thursday Thirteen or Sunday Salon.

I found Love Me, Still by Maya Banks when I went hunting for the other novellas from the The Perfect Gift anthology. Beloved mate to two wolves, Heather lived an idyllic life until hunters destroyed the pack’s peaceful existence. Believing their mate betrayed them and was responsible for their father’s […]
