Contest: Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs

PBriggs-Frost Burned

It’s almost here! The next Mercy Thompson novel by Patricia Briggs, Frost Burned, releases on March 5th and thanks to the wonderful people at ACE, I have a copy to giveaway today.

PBriggs-Frost BurnedMercy Thompson’s life has undergone a seismic change. Becoming the mate of Adam Hauptman—the charismatic Alpha of the local werewolf pack—has made her a stepmother to his daughter Jesse, a relationship that brings moments of blissful normalcy to Mercy’s life. But on the edges of humanity, what passes for a minor mishap on an ordinary day can turn into so much more…

After an accident in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Mercy and Jesse can’t reach Adam—or anyone else in the pack for that matter. They’ve all been abducted.

Through their mating bond, all Mercy knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. With the werewolves fighting a political battle to gain acceptance from the public, Mercy fears Adam’s disappearance may be related—and that he and the pack are in serious danger. Outclassed and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from any ally she can get, no matter how unlikely.

Mercy Thompson’s life is not exactly normal. Her next-door neighbor is a werewolf. Her former boss is a gremlin. And she’s fixing a VW bus for a vampire. But then, Mercy isn’t exactly normal herself.

PBriggs-Blood BoundBlood Bound

Under the rule of science, there are no witch burnings allowed, no water trials or public lynchings. In return, the average law-abiding, solid citizen has little to worry about from the things that go bump in the night. Sometimes I wish I was an average citizen…

Mechanic Mercy Thompson has friends in low places-and in dark ones. And now she owes one of them a favor. Since she can shapeshift at will, she agrees to act as some extra muscle when her vampire friend Stefan goes to deliver a message to another of his kind.

But this new vampire is hardly ordinary-and neither is the demon inside of him.

PBriggs-Iron KissedIron Kissed

I could smell her fear, and it satisfied something deep inside me that had been writhing under her cool, superior gaze. I curled my upper lip so she could get a good look at my sharp teeth. I might only weigh thirty or so pounds in my coyote shape, but I was a predator…

Mechanic Mercy Thompson can shift her shape – but not her loyalty. When her former boss and mentor is arrested for murder and left to rot behind bars by his own kind, it’s up to Mercy to clear his name, whether he wants her to or not.

Mercy’s loyalty is under pressure from other directions, too. Werewolves are not known for their patience, and if Mercy can’t decide between the two she cares for, Sam and Adam may make the choice for her…

PBriggs-Bone CrossedBone Crossed

In a world where “witches, vampires, werewolves, and shape-shifters live beside ordinary people” (“Booklist”), it takes a very unusual woman to call it home. By day, Mercy Thompson is a car mechanic in Eastern Washington. By night, she explores her preternatural side. As a shape-shifter with some unusual talents, Mercy’s found herself maintaining a tenuous harmony between the human and the not-so- human on more than one occasion. This time she may get more than she bargained for

PBriggs-Silver BorneSilver Borne

Being a mechanic is hard work. Mercy Thompson, for instance, just spent the last couple of months trying to evade the murderous queen of the local vampire seethe. And now the leader of the werewolf pack, who’s maybe-more-than-just-a-friend, has asked for her help. A book of fae secrets has come to light and they’re all about to find out how implacable – and dangerous – the fae can be.

OK, so maybe her troubles have nothing to do with the job. But she sure could use a holiday…

River MarkedRiver Marked

Coyote shifter Mercy Thompson knows that life with her mate, the Alpha werewolf Adam, will never be boring,, but even their wedding doesn’t go as planned. Nevertheless, a ten-day honeymoon camping on the banks of the Columbia River, alone, just the two of them, should make up for it. But the trip – and the pimped-out trailer they’re using – is courtesy of the fae. And nothing from the fae comes without strings attached…

Being a different breed of shapeshifter – a walker – Mercy can see ghosts, but the spirit of her long-gone father has never visited her. Until now. An evil is stirring in the depths of the Columbia River – and innocent people are dying. As other walkers make their presence know to Mercy, she must reconnect with her heritage to exorcise the world of the legend known as the river devil…

I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. “What do you think has happened to Adam and the pack? Why are they in pain and who has them?”

I think that the government took them, or, quite possibly, a rival pack wanting to move in on the pack’s territory.

  2. I want to say that a witch or another more spiritual power has them and is using them for added power. Leeching them of their pack strength. Pack power generator.

  3. I think they were taken for revenge or experiments. I can’t wait too see where this story goes. I have the date highlighted in bright pink so I won’t forget. This series is the BOMB.

  4. I think the vampires have Adam and the pack. I think the are in pain because the vampires are doing experiments on them. I can not wait to read this book! I have really missed Mercy and the whole gang!!!!

  5. Clearly it’s the FBI who has Adam or the CIA or the NSA or some other acronym based goverment-funded paramilitary organization, because we all know that those men in black type guys are jerks. Unless they’ve been captured by some kind of White Pride/People First group…no going with the goverment-funded para-military organization.
Anyway, I think the whole pain thing is from testing. The government wants a super soldier and is trying to find a way to use lycanthropy to do this. Hopefully this does not involve any breeding type experiments because that would be bad, although if they needed a volunteer for Adam…nope. Scratch that. :)

I am so excited for this book and particularly because it has more of Ben in it. Hooray!!

  6. I think the government has Adam and the pack hidden away in some secret lab, and is doing experiments on them, which is why they’re in pain.

  7. I say it the nature gods. Wolf has come back and decided to take some time with Adams pack. Maybe training or lessons on history. Giving them an advantage over other wolves. Preparing adam to take over for bran.

  8. I think some crazy human scientists have kidnapped Adam and the pack and now theu want to do experiments on them*shiver shiver* and now its up to Mercy and Kesse to find them

  9. “What do you think has happened to Adam and the pack? Why are they in pain and who has them?”
The Fae or the Vampires abducted them. I think there is a power play on how much they will let humans learn about the different species whether it be shape shifters, Fae or vampires.

  10. My first thought was the Fae, but I actually think the Vampire Seethe might have them now. I’ll admit – I didn’t think of the government! I’m sticking with the vamps, though.

  11. I keep wanting to suspect the fae, disguised as government, to try and convince Bran to move with the fae against the humans. I suspect they’re in pain because they’re kidnapped and coerced, but hopefully nothing too terrible!!

  12. It’s possible that a government is behind it or perhaps the presence of another supernatural species, like another pack or even the Fae.

  13. I think the fey have something to do with it. I would have said the government, but I just don’t see how they could have pulled off abducting the entire pack at once.

  14. The Government was on my mind when I read the question so I’m going with that answer. I believe the government has them and is experimenting on them, and that’s what is causing their pain.

  15. I think it is a fringe military group wanting to use the pack for targeted assassinations. They are in pain because a witch is involved and helping control them and interfere with pack bonds.

  16. I would have to say the vampires, as they would be the only ones who could initially take an entire pack by using their eye-contact mind control. Maybe they have them in silver cages or chains and that’s what is causing their pain :(

  17. Government agents are implied, although it may be “unsanctioned”/rogue ones. They’ve surely been drugged, probably with a silver compound of some kind in the drugs. Wondering if the info from “Moon Called” has spread around, or if it’s just other people getting the same idea & experimenting with it, like the two discoverers of various things through history at near same time, like DNA helix?
