Contest: Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs

PBriggs-Frost Burned

It’s almost here! The next Mercy Thompson novel by Patricia Briggs, Frost Burned, releases on March 5th and thanks to the wonderful people at ACE, I have a copy to giveaway today.

PBriggs-Frost BurnedMercy Thompson’s life has undergone a seismic change. Becoming the mate of Adam Hauptman—the charismatic Alpha of the local werewolf pack—has made her a stepmother to his daughter Jesse, a relationship that brings moments of blissful normalcy to Mercy’s life. But on the edges of humanity, what passes for a minor mishap on an ordinary day can turn into so much more…

After an accident in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Mercy and Jesse can’t reach Adam—or anyone else in the pack for that matter. They’ve all been abducted.

Through their mating bond, all Mercy knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. With the werewolves fighting a political battle to gain acceptance from the public, Mercy fears Adam’s disappearance may be related—and that he and the pack are in serious danger. Outclassed and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from any ally she can get, no matter how unlikely.

Contest Details:
To enter, all you have to do is answer this one question: What do you think has happened to Adam and the pack? Why are they in pain and who has them? Remember, you must answer the question in order to be entered.

Even though I’m not giving the additional entries any more, you can still help support the author by sharing their article, and this contest, on your blog, Twitter, Facebook, or anywhere you can. After all, the more people who are aware of this fabulous author and series ensures we get more fabulous stories.

The winner must post a review of the novel someplace. Whether it is on their own blog, Amazon, GoodReads, LibraryThing or wherever, it doesn’t matter. Just help get the word out.

The contest will stay open until March 5th, at which time I’ll determine the winner with help from this snazzy plug-in that I have.

Mercy Thompson series

PBriggs-Moon CalledMoon Called

Mercy Thompson’s life is not exactly normal. Her next-door neighbor is a werewolf. Her former boss is a gremlin. And she’s fixing a VW bus for a vampire. But then, Mercy isn’t exactly normal herself.

PBriggs-Blood BoundBlood Bound

Under the rule of science, there are no witch burnings allowed, no water trials or public lynchings. In return, the average law-abiding, solid citizen has little to worry about from the things that go bump in the night. Sometimes I wish I was an average citizen…

Mechanic Mercy Thompson has friends in low places-and in dark ones. And now she owes one of them a favor. Since she can shapeshift at will, she agrees to act as some extra muscle when her vampire friend Stefan goes to deliver a message to another of his kind.

But this new vampire is hardly ordinary-and neither is the demon inside of him.

PBriggs-Iron KissedIron Kissed

I could smell her fear, and it satisfied something deep inside me that had been writhing under her cool, superior gaze. I curled my upper lip so she could get a good look at my sharp teeth. I might only weigh thirty or so pounds in my coyote shape, but I was a predator…

Mechanic Mercy Thompson can shift her shape – but not her loyalty. When her former boss and mentor is arrested for murder and left to rot behind bars by his own kind, it’s up to Mercy to clear his name, whether he wants her to or not.

Mercy’s loyalty is under pressure from other directions, too. Werewolves are not known for their patience, and if Mercy can’t decide between the two she cares for, Sam and Adam may make the choice for her…

PBriggs-Bone CrossedBone Crossed

In a world where “witches, vampires, werewolves, and shape-shifters live beside ordinary people” (“Booklist”), it takes a very unusual woman to call it home. By day, Mercy Thompson is a car mechanic in Eastern Washington. By night, she explores her preternatural side. As a shape-shifter with some unusual talents, Mercy’s found herself maintaining a tenuous harmony between the human and the not-so- human on more than one occasion. This time she may get more than she bargained for

PBriggs-Silver BorneSilver Borne

Being a mechanic is hard work. Mercy Thompson, for instance, just spent the last couple of months trying to evade the murderous queen of the local vampire seethe. And now the leader of the werewolf pack, who’s maybe-more-than-just-a-friend, has asked for her help. A book of fae secrets has come to light and they’re all about to find out how implacable – and dangerous – the fae can be.

OK, so maybe her troubles have nothing to do with the job. But she sure could use a holiday…

River MarkedRiver Marked

Coyote shifter Mercy Thompson knows that life with her mate, the Alpha werewolf Adam, will never be boring,, but even their wedding doesn’t go as planned. Nevertheless, a ten-day honeymoon camping on the banks of the Columbia River, alone, just the two of them, should make up for it. But the trip – and the pimped-out trailer they’re using – is courtesy of the fae. And nothing from the fae comes without strings attached…

Being a different breed of shapeshifter – a walker – Mercy can see ghosts, but the spirit of her long-gone father has never visited her. Until now. An evil is stirring in the depths of the Columbia River – and innocent people are dying. As other walkers make their presence know to Mercy, she must reconnect with her heritage to exorcise the world of the legend known as the river devil…

  1. a hate group would be the obvious suspects (what with the werewolves struggling for acceptance) but i think someone has taken the opportunity to take them and put the blame on a hate group. we’ve had vampires and fae, so i think it is something new. i would go with witches.
werewolves live long lives so i think they will have afew enemies out there wanting to settle old scores.

thanks for the competition- i love this series!!!

  2. A rogue branch of the government kidnapped Adam’s pack using the drug cocktail from Moon Called. They want to experiment with using werewolves as super soldiers to do their dirty work.

  3. I think the vampires took them and are using the werewolf blood to increase their strength in a fight to take over another area.

  4. What has happened? They’ve been drugged and kidnapped. Who and why? Some nutcase is the frontman of the group. either a shadow-ops type who’s off the rails or a dude that’s an ex-agent with backing.
The push seems to be to get Adam to assassinate a congresscritter who is a waste of oxygen, but it can’t be that simple.
And Adam wouldn’t go along with it, anyways.
    Who is pulling the strings?
What is the real script behind the plot?
    Bwah-hah-hah-hah-hah-hah!

  5. It could be a new pack of werewolves moving in to take over. They could be trying to sever the link between Adam and his pack bringing pain to them all. And Adam is angry because he knows his days are numbered and Mercy is sadly expendable.

  6. I think the ‘Wolf” spirit guy from River Marked took them to remind them who made them and remind them that he unmake them as easily. More importantly I think it was manly targeted at Adam because he bit him when he was talking bad about Mercy, and the only way he get away with targeting Adam is by targetiong the whole pack, so they can be kept under control.

  7. I have two idea’s and I cant decide witch one is the greater possibility. I of course think that it could be the government/military who took them or just regular people who are wither doing experiments or just torturing them because they are werewolves. Or I think it could be the vampires. I don’t think that the vampire queen is done with Mercy or the Pack. I just thought of another possibility. It could be someone trying to get Mercy to use her or gain her powers. Because heer eyes are turning yellow. That never happened before.

I just can’t decide. But we will see in a few. I can’t wait!

  8. Thanks for the fabulous giveaway! I’m *dying* for this book :) I figure either a hate group or the government.

  9. I’m just in the middle of a re-read of Silver Borne and River Marked in anticipation. Somehow, this has got to tie into the fae war, so I’m thinking maybe the gov’t has kidnapped them to force them to fight the fae.

  10. I think another werewolf clan has them to undermine what Bran is doing with the wolves using Adam as a face for the media. The pain is them being kept in a particular form for too long or the fear and agony that being separated from Mercy is causing.

  11. I think the vampires from Europe have come for revenge and want Mercy to suffer. They are torturing the pack because they know Mercy will feel Adams pain through the mate-bond.

  12. I think Adam and the rest if the pack were abducted by either the faeries (since they don’t exactly get along) or by another pack that doesn’t want to be more exposed to the public than they already are. Adam is probably angry and hurting because of the fact that he was overpowered and he probably didn’t go without a fight.

  13. I think it’s a combination of super beings. I think there is a coalition led by a powerful member of the witches, Fae, and werewolves. They are an underground group that has been working to take over the world, and have finally made their move. Adam’s pack is crucial to humans accepting supes in the world. By taking them out, this group can show how powerful they are and strike fear into the world. Oh, and I think they use some of the top former military warriors from all over the world, in addition to supporters from their “branches” to help them pull off their plans/torture. Mercy will take care of them.

  14. I’m hoping it’s someone new, and not tied to the goverment. I think it’s too early for the fae, given that started at the end of the last Alpha/Omega book. Plus, Mercy has ties to the fae so I don’t think they would target Adam. I think the idea of someone using him to weaken the werewolves coming out might be possible, given his ties to Bran. As for why they took the whole pack? I think to control Adam, or it’s nothing to do with the supernatural world and they are hoping to use Adam to control a pack member. The rest are hostages to his good behaviour. Looking forward to the reality, whatever it might be.

  15. Ok so i have read everysingle one of mercys seires and omg love.it. unfortunately there is one reason why o would even try geting.this give away. i dont have money.to buy her.newest book. sad sad. how ever i am pretter sure the answer is not as clear as every one thinks. its never easy to figure out who the bad guy is with patrica oiy she keeps u on ur. toes. but if i had tocgues i would agre the drugs would be why they are pained and angry. but the culprit the vampires. they were the only ones that could know from bone crosed whe. mercy killed the monster that had her caged like a dog. i think stephen will be her contact hopefully i miss him he is very needed. any way i have to say vampires all the way

  16. Sorry, if I had a clue 1) I would be a great writer, and 2) I wouldn’t want the book so bad to find out! I don’t have a creative bone in my body – that is why I need great authors!

  17. I think the government has kidnapped them in order to get Adam to do something that they need a big bad Alpha werewolf to do. Maybe something related to the Fae since this would be round about the time in Alpha and Omega that the Fae declared themselves to be their own nation, right? And they’re in pain to keep them subdued and under control until Adam agrees to do what they want.

  18. I think the government has taken them to do experiments on them. Maybe it could be the Fae, but I don’t think that’s as likely.

    I love this series!

  19. I think the Fae took them. Wolves don’t go down easily and either some serious strength or magic would be needed to subdue and entire pack. The Fae are still a mystery with what they are truly capable of. Someone cunning has captured them and has cast a magic spell to keep them in check while torturing them.

As to the motive, both Mercy & Adam have made a lot of enemies (power, public image, social ties or their existence all together). I can’t wait to curl up and find out more about this power couple :)

  20. I think a super sekrit anti-government organization took them. To make sure they can control wolves and to find out how to coerce them into taking down the current government.
