About Jackie

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

Kitty and the Silver Bullet by C. Vaughn

25 December 2007 Jackie 0

Talk about holiday fever – the stores were so intent on getting out their merchandise for the shopping blitz that they accidentally put out Carrie Vaughn’s new novel Kitty and the Silver Bullet two weeks early. Not that I’m complaining, that just meant I got to read it before a […]

Escapist Newsletter (Vol. 1 Issue 1)

21 December 2007 Jackie 0

The title to the seventh Outlander novel has finally been released!! I’m so excited. It will be called An Echo in the Bone. However, there was some bad news. Gabaldon said she’s hoping to have it finished by the end of next year. That means I still have another year […]

50 Book Challenge of 2008

20 December 2007 Jackie 1

A friend of mine started a Yahoo! group called the 50 Book Challenge of 2008. The name says it all, so I’m not going to explain what the group is. However, it’s a challenge I’m going to have fun with. Reading 50 books in one year is no problem for […]

My Literary Collection

30 November 2007 Jackie 0

Quite honestly, I just wanted to put this list up somewhere so I would remember it. Since Ian was born, I’ve been looking for new authors since I’ve read all the books I have multiple times already. I’ve found some I’ll definitely buy (if I haven’t already), some goods ones […]

Halfway to the Grave by J. Frost

12 November 2007 Jackie 0

This was one of the best impulse buys I’ve made recently. Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost is great. I was reading it and thinking “great the ending is so going to be predictable” and it wasn’t. I so didn’t see it coming. The heart throb in the story […]

New Author – Sunny

4 October 2007 Jackie 0

So I found a new author – Sunny. That’s it. Just plain Sunny. I came across her in the anthology On the Prowl and went looking for her novels. The first novel is Mona Lisa Awakening and it’s about a race that migrated to Earth from the Moon over four […]

Touch the Dark by K. Chance

17 September 2007 Jackie 1

I have to say Touch the Dark by Karen Chance was a great find. It’s a vampire novel, but it doesn’t center around a vamp hunter or a necromancer, but a clairvoyant who grew up in the vampire world. Plus, unlike most of the vampire novels I’ve been reading, this […]

Devil May Cry by S. Kenyon

1 September 2007 Jackie 0

I finally got a chance to read Sherrilyn Kenyon’s newest Dark-Hunter novel Devil May Cry. Kenyon’s vampiric world revolves around mythology and the different Pantheons that have existed. We’ve already dealt with gods from the Greek and Norse Pantheons, but this time we’re introduced to the Sumerian Pantheon and some […]

Working for the Devil by L. Saintcrow

25 August 2007 Jackie 0

One of the new authors I’m checking out is Lilith Saintcrow and her series involving Dante Valentine. The premise is even more futuristic than Keri Arthur’s Riley Jenson novels and a slight take from the Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series. The first novel Working for the Devil introduces us […]

Tempting Danger by E. Wilks

20 August 2007 Jackie 0

While looking for a new book, I came across Eileen Wilks Tempting Danger. This novel revolves around Lily Yu, who is a detective in San Diego and she becomes involved in a case that changes her life. She’s introduced to the close-knit society of the werewolves (who are legal citizens), […]
