From the Author Sites

Sherrilyn Kenyon has unleashed the official Acheron and Simi dolls!  They look freaking amazing, but then again they should since each costs $150 plus shipping.

Tor.com is offering a free short story by Paolo Bacigalupi titled Small Offerings.

Richelle Mead has revealed the title for the sixth Georgina Kincaid novel – Succubus Revealed – and it will be available September 2011.  Richelle also has the exciting news that her Vampire Academy has been optioned for film by Preger Entertainment.  This only means that a film is possible, so there’s still some time to wait before we’ll see anything substantial.

Melissa Marr has posted the cover blurb for the final Wicked Lovely novel, Darkest Mercy.

“Send the messengers for the faery courts. This is the end.”

The Summer King is missing; the Dark Court is bleeding; and a stranger walks the streets of Huntsdale, his presence signifying the deaths of powerful fey.

Aislinn tends the Summer Court, searching for her absent king and yearning for Seth. Torn between his new queen and his old love, Keenan works from afar to strengthen his court against the coming war. Donia longs for fiery passion even as she coolly readies the Winter Court for battle. And Seth, sworn brother of the Dark King and heir to the High Queen, is about to make a mistake that could cost his life.

Love, despair, and betrayal ignite the faery courts, and in the final conflict, some will win…and some will lose everything.

Karen Marie Moning has terrible news – the release date for Shadowfever has been pushed back to January 18, 2011!  There is some good news though.  Normally, Moning’s books come in around the 100,000 word count, but Shadowfever may top off at close to 200,000.  So while we will have longer to wait, we’ll be getting two books out of her instead of one.

Karen Chance has fabulous news.  The fifth Cassie Palmer novel finally has a release date – June 2011.  Granted its a bit far off, but at least we now have a date to look forward to.  Plus, there is going to be a third Dorina Basarab novel.  I can’t wait for more Dory & Louis-Cesare!  Sadly, a title has not been released for either.

Has anyone been to Katie MacAlister’s site recently?  It had a makeover and it looks sharp.  I am really digging the dragons she has.  Be careful if you go over, you might end up with some design envy.

Kelley Armstrong has revealed the cover for The Gathering, the first Darkness Rising novel, will be out April 12, 2011.

New Excerpts or Reading for Free

Ann Aguirre has posted an excerpt for Killbox.  Have we seen it before?  I don’t really care…it’s Killbox!

Gerry Bartlett has an excerpt posted for her next Glory St. Clair novel, Real Vampires Have More to Love.

RT Book Reviews has an excerpt from Nicole Peeler’s Tracking the Tempest.

Kelley Armstrong has posted Divided’s chapter five.  You can read the first four chapters here and here.

Joey W. Hill has posted Part 6 to her Mason and Jessica Vignette (Vampire Queen series).

Jocelynn Drake has also posted an excerpt from her upcoming Dark Days novel, Pray for Dawn.

Dakota Cassidy has posted an excerpt for her fifth Accidental Friends novel, Accidentally Catty, which will be out March 2011.

Marta has just posted the first draft (aka Monster Motel) of the second novel, Midnight Brunch at Casa Dracula, and I guess there were a bunch of changes between that version and the published one.

Devon Monk has posted an excerpt for Lili St. Crow’s Jealousy and Lilith Saintcrow has an excerpt for Magic at the Gate as the rules stated for the Dames Smackdown (they tied).

Pat’s Fantasy Hotlist has an exclusive excerpt for Carrie Vaughn’s Kitty Goes to War.

Macmillan has added a free novella set in Jenna Black’s Avalon world (Glimmerglass) to their website and it features Kimber, Ethan’s little sister.

eHarlequin is offering the free story, Zombie Midnight, by Lori Devoti.

Cynthia Eden has posted a couple of excerpts – one and two – for her new release, I’ll Be Slaying You.

Ilona Andrews has posted another snippet from the upcoming Kate 5.

Anya Bast has posted an excerpt for her second Dark Magick novel, Cruel Enchantment.

What Bears Repeating

Marta Acosta will be releasing the fourth Casa Dracula novel, Haunted Honeymoon, on October 5, 2010.

Angie Fox had some fabulous news. She has just signed a contract for three more stories – two anthology contributions and a new Demon-Slayer novel. Yea!

  1. The first anthology is called So I Married a Demon Slayer and Angie is going to be joined by Kathy Love and Lexi George (a new author). There’s not a definitive release date, but it’s suppose to be out sometime in late summer 2011.
  2. The second is called Were Wives of Vampire County and Angie will be joined by Alexandra Ivy and an unknown author. This one has a slightly better release date as it’ll be available September 2011.
  3. The Last of the Demon Slayers will be Angie’s fourth (?) Accidental Demon Slayer novel and will be out January 2011. Check out the blurb:

Lizzie Brown would like to have just one normal date. Instead, she gets a towering inferno with a message: her long-lost dad is a fallen angel in danger of becoming a demon. Not good. Especially since she’s a demon slayer.

Her grandma advises her to stay out of it. Her sexy-as-sin shape-shifter boyfriend would much rather she devote her attention to more carnal pursuits. And her dog’s one demand is for more bacon. After all, he can’t train his pet dragon on an empty stomach.

But Lizzie knows there’s no other choice than to hop on her Harley and help her father – even if the search for the truth brings a bad-boy slayer back into her life and leads her into the middle of a war to end all wars.

Shiloh Walker is showing off the cover for the third Grimm Circle novel, Crazed Hearts.  This one features Ren, who we meet in No Prince Charming, and I still can’t figure out who he is.  Has anyone?  Crazed Hearts releases July 13, 2010.

Gena Showalter also has some fabulous cover news. Red-Handed and Blacklisted are being compiled into one novel, Darkness Eternal, which will be released September 14, 2010.

There’s Twilgiht news regarding the final movie in the saga.  According to the Horror Yearbook, Summit Entertainment has decided to split Breaking Dawn into two separate movies.  The first part will be released November 18, 2011 and will begin production this fall.  No word on when we can expect the second movie to make an appearance.

Has anyone else been waiting for the Dante Valentine Omnibus edition by Lilith Saintcrow?  You’ll only have a few more months to wait then.  Orbit Books will be releasing all five Dante books in one collection in March 2011 and this week they unveiled the gorgeous cover for it.  Not only have they unveiled it, but they also have a behind the scenes video of the cover photo shoot.

Great news for Jeri Smith-Ready – Shade has been optioned by the ABC Family network.  Jeri is quick to point out that this doesn’t mean a show is being developed or even produced, but the concept is being explored and no one but ABC Family can do it.  Hopefully, if we keep our fingers and toes crossed, we’ll get to see it happen.

Jeaniene Frost has posted the title for the fifth Night Huntress novel.  She’s getting ready to finish writing The Side of the Grave, which is suppose to be out next year.

Eileen Wilks has announced the title to the eight World of the Lupi novel and it is Ghost.  The seventh novel, Blood Challenge isn’t due out until January 2011, so don’t expect Ghost to hit the stores any sooner than 2012.

Kelley Armstrong has launched her new website for the Darkest Powers series.  Since the next three novels will not be told by Chloe, a new design was in order and she’s kicking it off with a new short story called Divided.

Cherie Priest has some fabulous news.  Tor has bought books three and four in her Clockwork Century series and they are tentatively titled Ganymede (2011) and Inexplicable (2012).

Fabulous news for KT Grant – she’s sold a straight erotic contemporary romance novel to Decadent Publishing.  For the Love of Mollie will be part of Decadent’s August 1st launch.

Meljean Brook has some fantastic news.  She’s sold the final two books in the Guardian series!  Demon Marked will be out in August 2011 and the final book, all about Michael, will be out in 2012.

Richelle Mead has unveiled the official Vampire Academy story – Arcane Vault.

Featured Book

It may be one a lot of people know of, but the cover really caught my eye tonight.  Joey W. Hill’s A Witch’s Beauty is the second novel in her Daughters of Arianne series.  The third book,  A Mermaid’s Ransom, came out in December 2009 and I haven’t seen anything about a fourth novel yet.

Mina is Dark Spawn, half-mermaid, half Dark One. A sea witch who lives in the shadows, she is shunned by the merpeople. She seeks no friendships, however, no lasting relationships. Every day is about surviving, fighting the call of the dark blood within her, which demands she submit her ever-increasing powers to their cause. But Mina submits to no one. Until she meets David.

At thirty, David is one of the youngest angels in the Dark Legion, the angelic host dedicated to eliminating Dark Ones. Unlike many of his fellow angels who feel Mina’s death is inevitable, he believes her power can be used for good. When he entreats his commander to be assigned as her guardian against the Dark Ones, he also finds himself cast in the reluctant role of her executioner, if she turns to their cause.

The only problem is he is falling in love with the prickly sea witch. Which means he might risk the universe itself to turn her away from the darkness, and into his arms.

Want to live in Amityville?  Now you can for only $1.15 million.

Fifty-Two Stories has posted the latest short story for our reading pleasure – The Truth Is a Cave in the Black Mountains by Neil Gaiman.

Tor.com is reporting that Johnny Depp may be casted as the Doctor in a big screen version of Doctor Who.

Sources are reporting that a big screen version of Doctor Who, written by former showrunner Russell T. Davies, is slated for release in 2012. Those same sources are also reporting that Johnny Depp has been confirmed in the iconic role of The Doctor.

The Huffington Post has published a Best Publishers on Twitter and Facebook poll and there are quite a few of our favorite publishers on it – including Tor.com, Random House and Penguin.

Falcata Times is reporting that Bloomsbury is going to be making Alyxandra Harvey’s My Love Lies Bleeding as a free download on July 5th.  The link hasn’t been posted anywhere, but make sure you check back here or at Falcata Times for it.

Dark Faerie Tales is featuring an new-to-me novel for her Waiting on Wednesday post – Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton.  This is the first novel in the new Angelfire series, which will be released February 15, 2011, and focuses mainly on angels and reapers. It caught my interest.

It sounds like Kindle Vixen has been experience the same thing as – a reading slum of major proportions.  As such, she’s starting a new feature called Turn Me On Tuesdays where she’ll “try to find new books and authors I haven’t heard of before but want to start reading“.  Her first pick – Sandman Slim by Richard Kadrey – seems to be working, but we’ll have to wait and see how she feels about it once she finishes it.

The Book Smugglers have published their latest Cover Matters feature and this month they are focusing on:

the results of 2010’s AIGA’s “50 Books/50 Covers”, followed by our look at some of the covers that Angry Robot produces as a counterpoint; and a guest post by Lee Harris, the main editor of the imprint.

Tor.com has published chapter previews for a few of their July releases – including Carrie Vaughn’s Discord’s Apple.

The LA Times has a great article on how book bloggers are finally getting recognized by publishers.  Granted, I think they have been recognized by publishers for awhile, whether they were considered a valued marketing tool is another thought.  (via Babbling About Books).

Galaxy Express has a great roundup for news on all things Science Fiction Romance.

Registration for the 2010 Book Bloggers Appreciation Week concludes on July 7th, so if you haven’t gotten over to register, make sure you do so soon.  In order to vote in the initial stages, you have to be registered (don’t worry, the voting on the short list is open to everyone).  Even if you don’t have a blog and just want to vote, you still need to register.  I have all the details here.

The first official trailer for the final Harry Potter movie – The Deathly Hallows – has been unleashed. What do you guys think?  Speaking of which, I heard on the radio the other day that 67% of the listening audience thought that the Harry Potter movie franchise was better than the Twilight Saga. What do you think? I don’t know if I would agree with that.  I mean, Goblet of Fire was an good movie and was way better than Prisoner of Azkaban, but none of them have ever made me want to go back to the theater to see it again and again – unlike Twilight.

About Jackie 3282 Articles
I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Jackie,

You will love Killbox!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will so be worth the wait. I am lucky enough to be a beta reader for Ms. Aguirre and it was an awesome book! She was kind enough to post my reaction on Facebook! I was thrilled to say the least. Love your site and newsletter so much! I check in at least once a day to see what is new. :) Good luck with your new baby on the way. My second born, my little baby girl will be three tomorrow and it feels like yesterday that I had her.
