Contest: Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs

PBriggs-Frost Burned

It’s almost here! The next Mercy Thompson novel by Patricia Briggs, Frost Burned, releases on March 5th and thanks to the wonderful people at ACE, I have a copy to giveaway today.

PBriggs-Frost BurnedMercy Thompson’s life has undergone a seismic change. Becoming the mate of Adam Hauptman—the charismatic Alpha of the local werewolf pack—has made her a stepmother to his daughter Jesse, a relationship that brings moments of blissful normalcy to Mercy’s life. But on the edges of humanity, what passes for a minor mishap on an ordinary day can turn into so much more…

After an accident in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Mercy and Jesse can’t reach Adam—or anyone else in the pack for that matter. They’ve all been abducted.

Through their mating bond, all Mercy knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. With the werewolves fighting a political battle to gain acceptance from the public, Mercy fears Adam’s disappearance may be related—and that he and the pack are in serious danger. Outclassed and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from any ally she can get, no matter how unlikely.

Contest Details:
To enter, all you have to do is answer this one question: What do you think has happened to Adam and the pack? Why are they in pain and who has them? Remember, you must answer the question in order to be entered.

Mercy Thompson series

PBriggs-Moon CalledMoon Called

Mercy Thompson’s life is not exactly normal. Her next-door neighbor is a werewolf. Her former boss is a gremlin. And she’s fixing a VW bus for a vampire. But then, Mercy isn’t exactly normal herself.

PBriggs-Blood BoundBlood Bound

Under the rule of science, there are no witch burnings allowed, no water trials or public lynchings. In return, the average law-abiding, solid citizen has little to worry about from the things that go bump in the night. Sometimes I wish I was an average citizen…

Mechanic Mercy Thompson has friends in low places-and in dark ones. And now she owes one of them a favor. Since she can shapeshift at will, she agrees to act as some extra muscle when her vampire friend Stefan goes to deliver a message to another of his kind.

But this new vampire is hardly ordinary-and neither is the demon inside of him.

PBriggs-Iron KissedIron Kissed

I could smell her fear, and it satisfied something deep inside me that had been writhing under her cool, superior gaze. I curled my upper lip so she could get a good look at my sharp teeth. I might only weigh thirty or so pounds in my coyote shape, but I was a predator…

Mechanic Mercy Thompson can shift her shape – but not her loyalty. When her former boss and mentor is arrested for murder and left to rot behind bars by his own kind, it’s up to Mercy to clear his name, whether he wants her to or not.

Mercy’s loyalty is under pressure from other directions, too. Werewolves are not known for their patience, and if Mercy can’t decide between the two she cares for, Sam and Adam may make the choice for her…

PBriggs-Bone CrossedBone Crossed

In a world where “witches, vampires, werewolves, and shape-shifters live beside ordinary people” (“Booklist”), it takes a very unusual woman to call it home. By day, Mercy Thompson is a car mechanic in Eastern Washington. By night, she explores her preternatural side. As a shape-shifter with some unusual talents, Mercy’s found herself maintaining a tenuous harmony between the human and the not-so- human on more than one occasion. This time she may get more than she bargained for

Being a mechanic is hard work. Mercy Thompson, for instance, just spent the last couple of months trying to evade the murderous queen of the local vampire seethe. And now the leader of the werewolf pack, who’s maybe-more-than-just-a-friend, has asked for her help. A book of fae secrets has come to light and they’re all about to find out how implacable – and dangerous – the fae can be.

OK, so maybe her troubles have nothing to do with the job. But she sure could use a holiday…

River MarkedRiver Marked

Coyote shifter Mercy Thompson knows that life with her mate, the Alpha werewolf Adam, will never be boring,, but even their wedding doesn’t go as planned. Nevertheless, a ten-day honeymoon camping on the banks of the Columbia River, alone, just the two of them, should make up for it. But the trip – and the pimped-out trailer they’re using – is courtesy of the fae. And nothing from the fae comes without strings attached…

Being a different breed of shapeshifter – a walker – Mercy can see ghosts, but the spirit of her long-gone father has never visited her. Until now. An evil is stirring in the depths of the Columbia River – and innocent people are dying. As other walkers make their presence know to Mercy, she must reconnect with her heritage to exorcise the world of the legend known as the river devil…

I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I think it was a secret government organization who took them, to try and better control over werewolves and prevent the werewolves from going completely out of control the way the fae did.

    Thanks for running this contest!

  2. tough call.. im gonna guess something to do with the fae.. from the events in the last alpha and omega book…
    Cannot wait to read it!!

  3. Maybe Mercy’s connection to Coyote. Some trouble that he has stirred up with expected consequences or the government, the Fae, vampires, rogue wolves……???? I think Patricia is going to surprise with something completely new. Who knows, but I can’t wait to find out.

  4. Since books written by Patricia Briggs have multiple layers, the answer will not be simple.

The senator, whose son was killed by the fae, wants revenge. Unfortunately, the fae have disappeared within the reservations. He looks toward other prey.

He wants a bill passed that either places all non-humans in a secure facility or killed on sight. In order to get his bill passed, he needs overwhelming public support.

To accomplish his plan, he has recruited a military type hate group.

The hate group has orders to attack and kidnap all known werewolves, witches, and possibly vampires. (Yes, I know, vampires are not officially out-of-the-closet.)

As far as the pain goes… In order to drive a werewolf crazy-mad with pain, the procedure or tool used will need to be creative. Each werewolf will be chained with silver manacles that have long silver spikes gouging into their skin. They will wear a silver collar, a collar that is fitted with a device emitting a high-frequency sound created to drive a werewolf insane. In addition to all of that, they will be injected with a new hallucinogenic drug.

In the end, the senator plans to release pain-crazed werewolves. He will release them into a packed football stadium on New Year’s day, locking werewolves and people together. He hopes to create a massacre. When the werewolves finish killing everyone on live TV, the senator believes his bill will pass.

    Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

  5. I think it is the government using witches to control the wolves and Mercy is going to get help freeing them from the Vamps.

  6. The government seems very likely since Adam is a voice for werewolves, maybe they are doing research on them, making them lab rats so to speak. But it could be any other possibility. I hope Mercy finds them fast. I can’t wait to read and find out.

  7. It is a government group who is led from afar by the vice pres who hates the current presidents policies supporting werewoves and others. He wants to find a way to discredit them and win an election based on the fear he will pander to the public.

  8. Whoever took Adam would have to be supernatural because lets face it, a human just could not match his strength. Plus to have taken the whole Basin pack you would have to have done some sort of relic or tons of muscle. Possibly a group of fae holding the werewolves or it’s the government. He’s probably in pain because that was the only way to subdue him. As for my answer, I’m pretty sure it’s wrong because if I’ve learned anything about Mrs. Briggs, it’s that she’s anything but predictable!

  9. A paramilitary group grabbed the weres – they’d have to be smart enough and have the right weapons to do so. Why? Because somebody wants to use them for nefarious purposes (ha!), likely for personal, not-kosher reasons — or they’d have tried asking nicely.

  10. Vampires or fae, pain maybe due to testing to possibly acquire some of the wolfs abilities. Been awhile I hope its xtra special

  11. As a huge Mercedes, Adam and Briggs fan-this one had me stumped. I’ve narrowed it down to a rogue government scheme or the mysterious vampires that are not liking Mercedes digging around them for help.

    I can’t wait!!!!!

  12. I’d have to say that a hate group or the government are responsible. Could even be a combination of both suspects. Not exactly sure about the why part of the question, but I’m going to assume that it probably has something to do with Mercy or just plain old fear of things that are different. As for the why they are in pain, well that’s simple: We know that they were shot with silver laced darts, thus whomever is responsible obviously knows their weaknesses and aren’t afraid to use them to get what they want. Therefore, we also know that they aren’t afraid to torture Adam and the pack.

  13. I LOVE Mercy! so… I think that somebody-maybe a werewolf who has decided to betray the pack- has them and is holding them hostage for some crazy take-over type non-sense. It’s a crazy premonition LOL :) Thanks so much for the giveaway and if I win I promise to host the book over on my blog and also post my reviews everywhere! :) Thanks bunches and good luck to everyone else!

  14. I think something new is affecting the pack that we haven’t see before and since they can all share it’s affecting all.

  15. Captured by a pack of rogue werewolves new to the area. Hurting them by trying to sever their bonds and loyalty to one another.

  16. I think some government agency has Adam and the pack. They’re probably being used for scientific testing or something like that.

  17. I would guess that the wolf pack was lured to an out-of-the-way spot and drugged perhaps by the government who wants to find out more about them to see if they can be used or to figure out how to make more werewolves. Adam and other wolves might be tortured and someone they know may be doing this which is what is making him angry…or he could be angry because they can’t get away.

I am so looking forward to this book. It is my favorite series at the moment!

  18. “What do you think has happened to Adam and the pack? Why are they in pain and who has them? ”
I’m guessing some nasty underfae/old god type has nabbed them. Maybe something like a used-to-be-animal-clan-god has sniffed them out and is punishing them for letting Mercy be connected to the pack, thus violating some forgotten rules of the sect.
    Can’t wait to find out!
